Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
Thai government applauded for sending KNLF founder to Denmark Human Rights Watch’s Asia division director Phil Robertson has praised the Thai government’s decision to send the founder of Khmer National Liberation Front Sam Serey to Denmark instead of Cambodia which has asked for his extradition, The Phnom Penh Post Online reported on Saturday (April 28). “Thailand deserves credit for making the right decision to respect Sam Serey’s continuing refugee status and sending him back to Denmark, the nation that is providing him with refugee protection,” said Phil in a statement. “Clearly, the Royal Danish Embassy, UN agencies and other like-minded diplomats in Bangkok were very determined in persuading the Thai government to respect Sam Serey’s refugee status and not send him back to Cambodia,” the statement added. Popular Post spidermike007
Good move. First time I have seen Thailand stand up to any of it's many despot neighbors. Doing the right thing is always the courageous thing to do. Hun Sen would have made this guys life miserable, or he might have just had him assassinated, as he has thousands of others. Sen is a serial killer, a lying, thieving thug, who has amassed a fortune into the tens of billions. He is not a democratic leader. Yet, he continues to be supported by morally weak, and ethically bankrupt western powers.

There are more around of these type of leaders than we care to admit. The middle east especially saudi has been one of the worst but as long as they sell cheap oil to and buy expensive weapons from the likes of usa no one gives a hoot. Lets not forget thaksin sold cambodia a virtually total telecommunications system ( from his own company ) and had the thai govt provide them with the finance to do so. Conflict of interest much? Bewilderingly some would prefer his sort to prayut. Well done the current thai government

Yet, he continues to be supported by morally weak, and ethically bankrupt western powers. Maybe a tad unfair. The EU and USA have ramped up pressure on Cambodia both economically and politically. They are well aware of Hun Sen and his disgusting ways and behaviour. What the West is worried about with such as removing favoured status for Cambodia in the garment trade and others, is that it will affect the poor most of all and not the target which is Hun Sen and his cronies. The other matter of course, is we have the Chinese waiting in the wings who do not care about human rights and are quite prepared to ' scratch his back ' with no strings attached economic aid, because he has openly supported the Chinese regards the South China seas and their encroachment of it including man mad atolls to extend Chinese influence. All these countries will regret getting into bed with the Chinese in 10 or 15 years for sure when their real intentions come to the fore. I have the exact same views as yourself regarding Hun Sen. He promotes himself as a leader and liberator and is nothing but a despot put there by the Vietnamese after their withdrawal, as no more than a puppet regime. He has since morphed into a corrupt, evil, murdering, lying scumbag. Good on Thailand though and a decent decision. Popular Post Darcula
Quote Serey is wanted in Cambodia for allegedly operating a terrorist group and was sentenced in absentia. It's possible Hun Sen doesn't really want him present on Cambodian soil. The same way as Thailand does not really want their absentee criminal to return.
