Microsoft is speaking out following the sentencing of Eric Lundgren to 15 months in prison for selling "counterfeit software."

IMO, MS was in need of a high-profile, nail-his-balls-to-the-wall case to scare people off from piracy. 

Going after the seller as opposed to the naughty user.  Note that is wasn't MS who brought in the case.

MS cases tend to be embarrassing,  like a 75 yo woman being charged because the neighborhood kid who helped fix her computer installed a pirated copy of something.
