I have to renew my retirement visa in October and I want to do it in Kuala Lumpur as opposed to renewing it in the UK. What are the requirements with regards to income? My present visa was renewed in Chiang Mai using the 800000 baht bank deposit. I can manage the 800000 baht but it would mean breaking into savings which would result in a loss of interest. In the past I have renewed it in the UK and all they needed at the Thai Consulate in Hull was a document proving that I was in receipt of a UK state pension (no minimum amount). So I would like to know if the same applies if I renew in KL. I normally use an agent when I renew in Chiang Mai so I would save by not paying an agent which would offset the cost of going to KL and a couple of nights in a KL hotel. I guess also if the visa can be applied for in KL then the same thing would apply to Hong Kong depending on the cheapest flights from Chiang Mai Thanks in advance. Keith

You cannot do it at the embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The only location you can get a multiple entry non-o visa for being on a UK state pension is at the embassy in London now.

You have apparently gotten a extension of stay (not a visa) based upon retirement at immigration in Chiang Mai.

You could apply for the extension using your pension income combined with money in the bank to reach a total of 800k baht. For example if your annual income from your pension was 500k baht you would only need 300k baht in the bank.

You would need a income letter from the UK embassy to prove your income that can be applied for by post. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

You should be able to apply for the extension without using an agent.

Thanks for your reply. I have an American friend who travels to Kuala Lumpur once a year to renew his visa/extension of stay. Why would he travel all that way and also go to Mai Sai every 90 days to go into Myanmar if he had the 65000 baht monthly income or 800000 baht in the bank and he could do everything without leaving Chiang Mai?

Not sure what he is getting in Kuala Lumpur. It is certainly not an extension since those are only done at immigration. He is certainly not getting any visa without financial proof and KL does not issue a non-o visa for being 50 or over unless a person is a Malaysian citizen or a permanent resident there.
