Hi ,

I,m looking for advice on the easiest way to obtain a retirement visa.

I am over 65 and I have just sold my house now waiting for the solicitors to arrange completion of the sale.

Can I get a 60 day visa and then an extension and then the retirement visa?

Also if I get a one way flight ticket will this cause a problem?

Thanks for any help.

I assume you are from the UK. If you are getting a state pension you could apply for a single entry non-o visa at the embassy in London.

Then you could apply for a one year extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon retirement at immigration here during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the non-o visa.

To apply for the extension you will need 800k baht in a Thai bank for 60 day or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht.

If you enter on a tourist visa you would have to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration before applying for the extension. You will need the same financial proof but the 800 k baht would only need to be in the bank for on the date you apply instead of 60 days. You would need at least 15 days remaining of the 60 day entry from the tourist visa to apply.

You could also apply for a OA long stay visa at the embassy. You would have the equivalent of 800k baht in a bank in the UK. A OA visa is valid for one year and allows unlimited one year entries for that year.

Chrisock,

For your own good, don't come to Thailand without adequate funds to  carefully support yourself.

Too many blindly make that critical mistake

It ain't all fun and games.

Good luck..

Health insurance, especially!!
