What movies or TV shows are you watching now?

Of those, I liked Nebraska the best. Whether any of them will endure, who knows? It's a Wonderful Life was not a hit when it came out in 1947, but became a perennial classic 30 years later, because it kept being shown as cheap Christmas filler on local TV.

Right now I am watching Welles' 1958 "B" movie "classic", Touch of Evil. It is cheap and sleazy, and the plot is...what? Seems to be made up as it goes along. Orson plays a grotesque, slovenly burnt out cop, but he does it so well, it's fun to watch. Charlton Heston is ridiculous as a "Mexican" lawman, complete with paste-on mustache and darkened skin tone. Janet Leigh as his wife is equally bad.

It's worth watching just for laughs, and for the brief scene between Welles and Marlene Dietrich, as a Mexican madam/fortune teller. He tells her he'd like to come back and enjoy some of her locally famous chilli. She tells him her chilli is "too hot" for him, and by the way, lay off those candy bars. it's a total mess, and the studio must have been horrified. They chopped it up, fired Welles, and sent it out as a throwaway 2nd feature, cheap!

There will never be another Orson Welles.

Watched the first episode of the British crime drama No Offense. Do not know what to make out of it. So far, I think it is just average.

A detective constable finds out that two missing girls who were found dead over some time may not have died by natural courses. Their deaths indicate a pattern. And so the hunt for the serial killer begins. The three main characters are female by the way.

Annoyingly, I have trouble adjusting to this kind of British accent (alright, that's probably just me). If I am really bored, I might watch the second episode.

I wasn't to sure what to make of it either but it's certainly a different kind of cop show.

I'm going to give is another go.

Maggie

A zombie style movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sounds good? A bit of action?

This is a dead set stinker. Difficult to believe a movie about Zombies in a bleak future could be so interminably slow and boring.

1/10

A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.

Just Before I Go

This movie just doesn't work.

It lacks in two main areas. A weak script and the wrong choice as the main character. Seann William Scott, Stiffler from American Pie, is the lead and was a cr.ap choice.

Good to watch if you want to fall asleep.

3/10 from me

On the verge of giving up on life, a guy travels to his hometown to make amends.

Timeless classic films of the Modern/"Postmodern" era?

Looking at this list, I realize that most of these are 20 - 40 years old already. I'm drawing a blank trying to remember more current films. Anybody?

Gladiator. (15 years and counting...).

Documentary - Life and Death Row

Another BAFTA award winning doco from the BBC.

This one was one superb. A well-balanced (3 parts) look at both sides of the death penalty argument.
Really thought proving viewing.

IMDB: A controversial BBC documentary that follows the lives of three American citizens on death row.

Gotta love it: Hannibel Season 3 Trailer just out: Bride of Hannibel

Season 3 will start in a few weeks, and looks like a fun ride for we Hannibel lovers:

Never really got into it and gave up after the first episodes. But throwing in Gillian Anderson is probably the most malicious approach to lure someone into a trap (or into a show, to be precise). Alright then, I give up, I'll watch it (her).

Jack Irish.

I'm not sure if i mentioned this Crime/detective series before.

A real cracker. I enjoyed it so much I have watched the 3 movies twice wach.

In order, the telemovies are:

There is meant to be a 6-part series produced in 2015. Looking forward to that!

Another Peter Temple book made into an ABC tele movie if The Broken Shore. This is also excellent and well worth a watch if you can.

Thanks for that BookMan, watched Bad Debts last night and enjoyed it.

IMO, a lot better than the IMDB rating of 6.6.

Downloading the other 2 now.

I know it was made in 2012 but it just seemed a lot older to me.

Was good seeing some great Aussie actors.

Roy Billing who played Robert Trimboli in Underbelly.

Shane Jacobson....who can forget the movie Kenny.

And I really like Aaron Pederson. Was in a great series called Wildside many years ago.

Wildside was excellent. new and exciting in its day

The book of the first Jack irish one was written in 1996, so possibly, it was set earlier?

TV series - The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies

This 2 part series won 2 BAFTA's this week for best mini series and best actor.

Both well deserved IMO.

I wouldn't say it's enjoyable, but It's a fascinating story that could happen to anyone.

IMDB: This drama tells the real-life story of retired schoolteacher Christopher Jefferies who was initially questioned by police as a suspect in the murder of Jo Yeates who rented a flat from him. He was vilified by the press, partly on account of his eccentric appearance and long flowing hair, even after he had been released on bail by the police. It was only when the real suspect, a neighbour of Jo Yeates, was arrested and later convicted of the murder that the destructive media attention in Jefferies subsided. He later sued several newspapers for libel and received an official apology from the police.

Harrowing-I watched it on youtube last night. Hats off to the lead actor for such an accurrate depiction of a British eccentric. Edited by evadgib

The final episode of American Crime showed a few turns and surprises I did not expect. But the whole thing came to a good ending I'd say (at least for some of the characters). Only one question remained unanswered. But I guess like in "The Leftovers" the answer is of no significance for the development and closure of the show. Glad that they renewed the show for a second season, with a completely different story, though.
