A Nakorn Panom man had a lucky escape from death after his Nissan Almera slammed into a tree on the north eastern Thai town's bypass on Sunday morning.

The car burst into flames and Natthakorn Bunyaritwong, 37, was injured in the driver's seat when a member of the public came to his rescue just in time.

Pictures showed the car in flames and completely destroyed by the crash and fire.

The driver was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

Police said it looked like the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel while travelling fast.

The injured man is a curry shop owner of an establishment near the Nakorn Panom town hall.

Or lack of nasal inhalers, or both.

Another great road safety initiative from previous years.
