Authorities inspecting rice auctioned by two companies in 2017 after finding irregularities

RATCHABURI, 10 May 2018 (NNT) – Thai authorities have carried out an inspection of state rice stocks in Ratchaburi province after irregularities in a recent auction of rice for animal feed.

Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Police, Pol Gen Dejnarong Suthichanbancha, and President of the Public Warehouse Organization, Pol Lt Gen Kraiboon Suadsong, led Ratchaburi’s governor and relevant agents on an inspection tour of V.C.F Group and S.P.M Company after irregularities were found in the first state rice stock auction of 2017. Rice auctioned during the session was allegedly misused and processed into animal feed despite being marked for industrial use only.

Pol Gen Dejnarong said government agents will be reviewing all documentation of the two companies to ensure they conform to with government regulations and will check that current stocks are consistent with the information available.

Pol Lt Gen Kraiboon said both companies will be asked to explain their documents and work when handling the rice, particularly how animal feed grade rice was found mixed with the auctioned stock.

Because S.P.M is yet to schedule an explanation, it has been ordered to suspend all operations until suspicions are addressed.

V.C.F Group has assured it will be able to explain all matters and is confident that its process was appropriate. Initially it has explained that inconsistent numbers in terms of its animal feed grade rice were due to reported figures being based on estimations rather than actual stocks. Up to 3,200 tons of rice is thought to be missing from the group’s stocks.

V.C.F Group sold 205,236 tons of rice during the auction in question, while S.P.M sold 40,564 tons.

The transport of rice from the second auction of 2017 is ongoing and is being monitored by authorities.

I thought all the rice problems were solved once the junta found Yingluck guilty?

Oh God, it just goes on and on. It never stops. These people never stop. They just can't stop themselves putting their grubby paws in the cookie jar if they think no-one is looking or there's a chance they'll get away with it. It really is a disgraceful reflection on the nature of the Thai people.

Perhaps they think they can get away with it as they watch people with connections get away with it.

I have no doubt of that at all. Top-down corruption - the Thai way. It comes from as high up as you choose to look, and it isn't an accident, nor is it anything like an isolated case. Rule rather than the exception.

I'm sure they'd like to sue her for this, but even old Prawit would be hard pushed to come up with a suitable excuse.

Be interesting to see who owns and is connected to these companies.
