A recent rally by the People Who Want to Vote at Thammasat University

The National Security Council (NSC) has warned of possible violence by an infiltrating “third party” at a planned street protest to push for an early election on the fourth anniversary of the military coup on May 22.

General Wanlop Rugsanaoh, the NSC’s secretary-general, said on Thursday that his agency was also attempting to determine whether there was anyone behind the planned rally, following an observation by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha about that possibility.

A group calling themselves People Who Want to Vote threatened to march to Government House on May 22 to lodge their demands with the prime minister for a general election to be held in November, the post-coup administration to reduce its role to a caretaker government and the military to stop supporting the ruling junta, the National Council for Peace and Order.

“The government is preparing for an election to be held. We do not want to see a demonstration because the public will be inconvenienced,” Wanlop said.

“It’s possible the march may be infiltrated by people with ill intentions who want things to get out of control. The government is trying to prevent those people from using this rally as their political tool. And we are doing our best to prevent law violations and disruptions of the peace,” he added.

The NSC chief said that he expected the authorities to step up security measures ahead of the rally.

Generals excuse to call in the Army and delay elections ! anything to his cause

  • Popular Post

Well there’s only a small amount of them, right? General Rolex said elsewhere that this is a small group and nigh on 70 million Thais understand the road map.

Which one is it?

Junta fears

So powerful............................so scared.

It's the Malaysian election result that has scared them!

I wonder if the mystery 3rd party will have a surname beginning with S.

The mystery third party - infiltrating the demo - could well be (if it exists at all - which is doubtful) agents provocateurs from the junta itself. It is not at all unusual for unprincipled governments and suchlike to plant paid trouble-makers into a crowd, to make that crowd look bad - and then the government can claim that all demonstrations must cease forthwith, as they pose a threat to 'national security'.

I would not put anything past this bunch of criminals (the junta, that is!).

Took the words out of mouth (off my keyboard). It would be extraordinarily stupid and counter productive if Thaksin (and that is exactly who they're referring to - let's not beat around the bush here) to provoke anything at this very delicate stage. And whatever people think of him, Thaksin is anything but stupid. He can run circles round Man-Child and Dumbo with hands tied behind his back. He must know full well that right now it's best for him to sit back and watch the show because he doesn't really need to anything . Man-Child and Dumbo are doing it for him but are far too stupid to realise this. And of course he knows that any kind of mass protest against the junta must be seen as genuine and not manufactured.  In short, he does not stand to gain by interfering. The junta however thinks it stands to gain by portraying the opposition as violent and therefore justify its continued role at the helm. If there is violence, look no further than the junta.

But Thai never do that! You should know. It is also totally inconceivable that it may have happened during past protests!

It is also possible little green men for outer space can invade earth anytime now.   Peace at any price and asserting there will be violence where no real evidence of such a thing is evident.  Wanlop should be ashamed of himself.

Or is the government trying to use imagination as a political tool to prevent it ?

Yep, if the junta do get tough with these people it will be easy for them to say 'a third party was responsible. Of course, the junta totally ignore the fact that it's their fault anyway, for making election promises then breaking them, in the first place.

Totally agree with you, TKDfella. The junta will surely use any protests as an excuse for not holding their (in any case fake) 'election' - they will say 'there is not yet sufficient peace and harmony in the Kingdom to allow for an election.' Or - they will engineer (manufacture) violence (through agents provocateurs). Or - people will finally snap and real violence will erupt.

The junta have got it all sewn up. They are in a win-win situation - unless the genuine sovereignty-holders of Thailand (the Thai people) rise up in huge numbers against them.

They should be scared they have run roughshod over anyone else who dares to even ,meet let alone have a rally, they know deep down theya re flawed, their ideas are stagnating the country and that in essence since the coup the only thing that has been positive is the lack of protests only because you are not allowed to.

Infiltrators , they mean with their own stealthy men get into the rally they will stir up the crowd and so the election will be further delayed again and again.

But of course blame it on outsiders, probably foreigners who have no idea how to be democratic especially in the Thai way.............

Why do they even worry? The constitution and the election are both a farce. I truly hope these elite idiots get their faces slapped and have to go into exile. They are no better than any other government. Perhaps worse on the entire whole as they seem to be the biggest liars.

Smoke and mirrors ?

I think that everyone is being awfully unfair to Thailand's present rulers here.

By the great lord Buddha how they struggle mightily for the people and their only concern here is for the lack of Portaloos available during demonstrations..

It is a health issue. The order for 10,000  Portaloos was intercepted in Malaysia and now resides in a forlorn parking lot somewhere.

The third party should come out into the open and honestly declare their evil intentions of overthrowing a kingdom living in bliss and harmony, as it has always been..for ever and ever..

"Junta fears protest violence, says NSC chief"

I don't think so. The junta fears dissent. In fact the junta is terrified of dissent and spreading dissent. So naturally it tries to hold up the spectre of violence so the Thai people will also fear dissent or worse, will conflate violence with dissent

We all know where the violence has come from during the past 10 years.

It's Groundhog Day all over again!

Yup.

Many,many Groundhog days ahead..

Right from Day one Prayut has had night mares of the Junta's of past and their association with public demonstrations of the students and People will be ever remembered , this time the military might not get off so lightly .................................:coffee1:

Here we go again.

History repeating.

Agent provocateurs, men in black, 3rd party.
