Thousands Dead, Hundreds More Dogs Now Dying Due To Scare: Foundation

I'm not overly fond of dogs but like many there's no way I want to see them suffer like this.  But Thais have a sickly sentimental attitude towards strays. I live in one of the better housing estates, yet I can't go for a run in the evening because of the dogs.  It's really bad that they should face dog camp or lethal injection.

Did you read the story? These aren't strays these are family owned dogs that were all dumped in a shelter because of the recent rabies scare nothing to do with strays or soi dogs they are all still out there.

  • This is why they should be humanely sent to the next life...not left to roam the streets or fester in camps.

  • If they where properly looked after "pets" they would never have ended up in these camps to begin with.

That´s exactly why they should have been shot off long time ago.

I am very, very sorry they are suffering. Pass the Nembutal there are far too many soi dogs and this is the result.  Round them up from the streets where they roam in packs and send them on their way.

Thais, generally, don't care about animals they need educating about neutering and responsibility (along with a ton of other things).

Is this the part where we praise Buddhism's teachings of not hurting/killing others but just let them die a wretched death?

I will teach compassion 101 for free and I am one unsympathetic heartless bastard most cases just so we know where the bar is.

Normally where the stools and the people serving the drinks are :sorry:

Even worse and just highlights Thais attitude to dogs. These have to go as well as the soi bullies which are everywhere.

Tend to agree I am an animal lover but they need animal control to cull soi dogs as the issue is now well out of hand and Thais should not be able to own pets at all. Much like their children they love them when they are puppies then just neglect or ship them off to someone else when they get bored. Like the old campaign states a dog is for life not just for Christmas.

complete sweeping statement. i know many thais with dogs and all of them look after them very well and are responsible dog owners. i actually think that it's possibly the less educated and those with little money that are more likely to act in the way you posted but that's another topic

So you counter my "sweeping statement" with another hahaha classic ok I will admit to mine if you can admit to yours, or is it all poor uneducated people that can not be responsible pet owners? :cheesy:

it isn't sweeping as i said IMO possibly those people are more likely to. (and there are legitimate reasons i think this is the case) and also that doesn't mean all of them so isn't sweeping as in your statement.

Sorry but even with the rabies scare this is disgusting. I'm willing to bet that many of these dogs were taken from their homes irrespective of whether they had been vaccinated or not. One day Perhaps our canine friends will inherit the planet and make the world a better place.

you mentioned a word that is NOT used in this country! in fact I do not even know if they would understand it! the word was "NORMAL!"

well where i live most of the houses have large parking ports out from with large gates and people don't let their dogs out on the streets with the strays. and they are pets and well looked after. do you know how they selected the dogs. they could have just walked to the houses where they saw dogs and convinced the owners to part with them for no real reason

lets not forget H millions of dogs the last couple of yrs. were given FAKE vaccinations while officials filled their pockets.

it breaks my heart to see all the suffering,so there is only one solution, end the suffering by putting them to sleep then cremation at the local temples.

I don't agree that the animals should be treated like this, but neither do I want soi dogs roaming free to breed and attack. All those dogs should be humanely put down. Only dogs "owned" and registered, with collars, should be allowed.

This is a situation entirely of the Thai authorities making by allowing soi dogs in the first place. Unfortunately, even though it's become catastrophic, they won't deal with it by doing the right thing. Shameful.

Thai logic continued to escape me. It would be wrong to euthanize the dogs in a humane way; but starving them in forced disease-ridden conditions is the proper thing to do?

Please, Thailand, educate your people to be smarter than a western second grader.

No, I take that back. If you get a classroom of second graders from an advanced country, and present them with nearly any problems facing Thailand, and I guarantee you they come up with better solutions.

Now if that secind grade class could just find a way to usurp the democratically elected government of Thailand....oh wait....

I seriously doubt they are confiscating dogs from peoples homes. The level of paranoia being expressed here is reminiscent of the PC crowd back home. The fact is these soi dogs lead miserable lives. They are infested with disease, rabies, and many are nasty creatures, bark all night long, harass the domesticated dogs, and the locals, and lower the quality of life for many. If people would simply stop feeding them, there would not be such a proliferation of them. The most humane thing to do, is to round them up, and put them down. Nobody is going to come to claim a mangy dog.

This is horrible what they’re doing to these poor babies. These government officials have no idea what they’re doing. And they really don’t care.

it makes me rethink whether I want to live in this country.

Here the fumigate the mozzies because of dengue and chikungunya, so why not these stupid, agressive, diseased pests?

They attack you because they know that you're not a nice person .

I clearly stated in a later post that we should kill the sick ones and ship the healthy ones and after further research into the matter, I now feel that china would be a better market.

Do you know how China kills dogs prior to their being consumed? They beat them to death to supposedly improve the flavour of the meat. This is a country that sees nothing wrong with keeping bears in tiny cages and using them to extract bile, the same country that has no conscience about killing tigers and rhinos for uses in supposed aphrodisiacs, and their human rights record is equally appalling. Perhaps you need to think about your responses before shooting yourself in the foot.

Clearing up this public health problem has been long overdue and it has festered to a point that any speedy solution is going to be harsh. Obviously the "Save the Fluffy Fido Brigade" are going to be jumping around like jack rabbits about it...but the public's safety is more important.

All I'm saying is that dogs meat is a commodity the same as pork or chicken. If more was shipped to dog eating countries we wouldn't have as many problems with dogs as we do now.

Cull the sick ones Ship the healthy ones.

There doing the same thing with pigeons in lopburi.

And they should do it with you , too...

The Vietnamese or the newbies?

Good news but the numbers need to be in the hundreds of thousands to make real improvement. To all the animal lovers and those deluded enough to wish this on humans, are you really an animal lover? If you eat meat you are NOT,

Just substitute animal lover for "dog lover" and your question makes more sense. But I will qualify my statement, as a dog owner. There's a big difference when talking about domesticated dogs and soi dogs. Personally, I agree, the soi dog issue is a problem. It needs to be humanely dealt with.

The solution is to replace the soi dogs with soi cats. Cats would control the rat and cockroach populations.  And when have you ever heard of a child being attacked by a group of cats?!

I have lived and worked in Vietnam

Ok dog is on the menu

However pet dogs in Vietnam are widespread  and are just that pets!  they get treated much better than so called pet dogs in Thailand

Of course some Thai people love and take care of their dogs BUT in the main they are left to fend for themselves

The soi dog population is out of control i live in the countryside  and a ride to the town entails passing 100s of dumped dogs so a cull is really the only way forward,

OH my dogs i have 3 beauties (lab mixes) and believe me they are taken care of but they are family pets!

I don't want to put my dog in this TV fight,

but dog meat is a bit of a special treat in Hanoi.

Personally, I'd like to see motorcycle taxi drivers, Pattaya taxi drivers, corrupt government officials (especially the scum that took the money from the poor), Soi dog lovers, and selected tourist-trash rounded up and sent to Vietnam.

If the dog problem is sufficient to make you leave, better get on your bike. Dogs are the least of this country's problems.

this is not going to go away. it was back in February of this yr.when the shit hit the pan,an ex.dept.official got hold of all the fake vaccines and gave them to his wife.who was a VET.panic stations over 3million were given genuine shots, with the promise that the other 4million strays would be treated.as the usual the response from most of the province's is,

NO BUDGET.i have been one of a few who have been helping a shelter feed over 250dogs,i still don't know if any of them have been vaccinated,or if any official has visited the place.

I am beginning to loose heart with what is going on,or not.
