BANGKOK, 12th May 2018 (NNT) – The National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is to start shutting down websites and channels advertising non-certified products on May 15th.

The state broadcasting and telecommunications regulator will work with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to disband digital tv channels, satellite tv networks, radio stations, and websites that advertise non-certified products.

The comment was made by NBTC Secretary-General Takorn Tantasith. He said starting May 15th, FDA agents will be stationed at the NBTC Head Office and will help the regulator look for unauthorized and false advertising.

Between May 4th and 9th, the NBTC ordered five digital tv stations and 14 satellite stations to cease broadcasting 21 advertisements, said Takorn, adding that the stations will face a fine of no more than 5 million baht or a jail term of no more than 1 year, or both, should they ignore the order.

Well little doubt a bit clumsy to get it started but IMHO a step in the right direction.

Seems to me that products which should, in the public interests, have certification but don't have them and /or are fake, an/or the producers have never applied for certification an/d the producres have never applied for certification because they would be granted, should not be allowed to openly advertise these products.

I may be drawing a long bow here but isn't the junta government a form of uncertified product. It certainly wasn't duly certified or legitimised by an election therefore any websites and channels which are shown to be supporting the junta or it's members should also be shut down. For example that TV channel that shows the Friday night sermons of one of it's most prominent members; who also happens to be an uncertified leader.

Pardon me; just wishful dreaming!

How does one certify a generic product?

Don't wait with baited breath - some Government official will dream up a reason.

Always remember they are still basically Thai 1.0 NOT Thai 4.0 as they claim.

I didn't know the NBTC had any jurisdiction over websites.

I thought the website guys were over at the Information whatever blah blah blah Ministry.
