petermik
Having moved up from an Almera to a Sylphy both autos (1200 cc engine almera 1600 cc sylphy) I expected the fuel economy to take a hit, which of course it has......but to my surprise it has turned out to be hardly anything......anyone else here drives a Sylphy and is getting the fuel economy that I am experiencing? On my monthly run from here in Pattaya down to Trang in the south (past 3 years) 940 kms on the AH2 road speeds of 100-110 kms/hr where possible (quite comfortable with this) my driving style has never altered both cars running E20 fuel and with the Almera I was getting 20.4 kms/litre the Sylphy (just 6,000 kms on the clock) running the same E20 fuel is returning 19.3 kms/litre........amazing for such a bigger engined car.... johng
Maybe the new car has a CVT transmission ?
mogandave
An undersized engine is likely reving higher and can burn more fuel than a more appropriately sized engine. A few years back the Camry in the US offered a 4 cylinder standard, with an optional six.The six-banger got better mileage.
Just Curious
I've had a 1.8 Navi Sylphy for nearly 5 years (60,000 km) on some trips to Issan I've achieved 20 km/l out of it. Definitely far more economical than the Honda City and Civics I owned previously. Newer technology I guess coupled with the CVT.
