Low cost flying fleets triple in five years

Now everyone can fly, cheaper and with more choices

Thailand’s low cost carrier sector is continuing to grow rapidly since the first two LCCs, Nok Air and Thai AirAsia, launched back in 2004. Now we’re spoiled for choice with Lion Air, Thai Smile, Nok Air, Air Asia, JetStar, Vietjet and NokScoot vying for our budget-flying baht.

 

Thailand Business News reports that growth has accelerated over the past five years. This is partly due to the late 2013 launch and rapid expansion of Thai Lion Air although Thai Air Asia, a dominant force in south east asian LCC expansion, continues to expand its routes of direct flights around the Kingdom.

 

Thailand has six low cost airlines operating a combined fleet of 136 aircraft, according the CAPA Fleet Database. LCCs account for 45% of Thailand’s total commercial aircraft fleet and over 60% of the narrow-body fleet. The vast majority of Thailand’s LCC fleet are from the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family of aircraft.

I am not a fan of the so called budget airlines, where do they save money maintenance old planes perhaps?

 

Just not comfortable on this method of transport being offered cheaply.

Although improved in recent years Thai, Air France, Aeroflot to name a few do not have a good safety record. Competition is good news for the consumer

Easy Jet is highly popular in Europe and some of their rare issues such as delays or flights being cancelled have not dissuaded customers.

 

The regular airlines (and their overcharged fares) have had their day...the low cost giants will take over.

 

If the maintenance and passenger service is up to standards, they will continue to prosper.

 

Heavy competition is good for the customer. If one lowcost airline gets to cheeky, gives bad service on board or unreliable flight schedules, one can always change and they know it.

 

This will keep standards high with each airline keeping a watch on how the rival airline is operating. And the rogues giving bad service will plainly go bankrupt fast.

 

A customer today, has the choice. Internet enables each passenger to be his own travel agent. The passenger today wants quality of service, good standards at a crashed price. Either accept it, or accept to be out of business overnight.
