snoop1130
The House That Jack Built review – is the controversial Cannes movie actually any good? BY JAMES MOTTRAM IN CANNES Image: CURZON ARTIFICIAL EYE Lars von Trier is back in Cannes after a seven-year ban has been lifted and he's brought a controversy-packed movie. At the premiere there were walk-outs, which is hardly surprising. The Danish director's latest tackles the life of a serial killer; it was never going to be pretty. When the film starts, to a black screen, two voices are talking: Jack (Matt Dillon), an engineer and failed architect, and a mystery man that we later learn is called Verge (Bruno Ganz). canuckamuck
More and more, the mention of Cannes in connection with a film is an indication that I won't probably like it.

canuckamuck
It used to mean edgy, but now it is usually just agenda proselytizing or just seeing how disturbing things can get.

How many of the films that were shown (in any given year) at Cannes have you actually seen? How many did you "review" from last year when , I'm pretty sure, there were as many on the list of presentations as this year. Or is the media focus, on the one or two films it deems shocking enough to be "newsworthy", the source of your balanced judgement?. I guess "Solo: A Star Wars Story (dir: Ron Howard)" or "10 Years Thailand (dir: Aditya Assarat, Wisit Sasanatieng, Chulayarnon Sriphol & Apichatpong Weerasethakul) from this years list don't stand much of a chance of your viewing......now that you've read the "headlines". So blame the media, if there are actually good movies being presented at Cannes. I wouldn't know about it.
