Handle monk cases with caution, says Prayut

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked law enforcement officials to be more careful in handling the arrest of controversial persons, while issuing an apology for Suvit Thongprasert or the former Phra Buddha Isara who was disrobed and arrested on charges of illegal association and lese majeste last Thursday.

Lt General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the PM’s Office spokesman, said Prayut also expressed regret after many people had criticised the police handling of the controversial ex-monk who was previously the abbot of Onoi Temple.

The premier said authorities will have to be more cautious in such a case so as to avoid hurting the sentiment of many people who have high respects for the ex-monk who previously played an active role in the People’s Democratic Reform Committee, which staged protests against the government of Yingluck Shinawatra. The former Buddha Isara also faced lese majeste charges due to the unauthorized use of royal initials on amulets.

At least the PM is consistant. I remember him asking for the same consideration for his brother, his nephew, his sidekick (Prawit), and himself.

Unfortunately in recent years monks has gotten a bad name with many of them involved in crimes, civil disobedience by inciting riots and act or terrorism, acts of pure greed and carnal knowledge of women, in short, everything buddhism is against and tell you not to engage in, the PM is wrong asking the state to take it easy on monks, it is the monks who should start to behave like one and take it easy on all buddhists and not disgrace their teaching and calling....

Buddhism is against "carnal knowledge of women" ??  I thought a lot worse happened in these Wats.

Translated: The two tiered system should be  applied to wealthy and influential alleged criminals.

Average people?  Don't worry about them.  The 'little people' are inconsequential.
Well-to-do including wealthy monks?  Handle with kid gloves.  Don't handle them like 'little people.'

Sex, fear and greed ! Sounds like the beginning of book or movie ?

Criminals are criminals, monks have more responsibility than "normal" peoples because they are public persons (examples) so the punishment must be harder than for others. Only the way to get those peoples is a little bit too hard (in that case 15 officers with big weapons). Other criminals have the time to leave the country with all their belongings.

One news Chanel showed big p and small p salivating while in the presence of the monk that was arrested by the commandos. Little p seemed to have a special diamond ring on, but it looked so odd as those two looked so happy to be in the mix.

I would have understood a message saying handle the genuinely guilty with the maximum severity, as they should know better.

But this spouting......... Phashaw, as my Victorian grandmother would have said.

What a load of codswallop. This Is lese majeste charge, Mr Prime Minister!! Who cares if this ex-monk's supporters' sentiments are hurt?  I betcha they didn't give a rat's arse when some Facebook sharers faced the same charge.

Probably the same outcome though, both will make Uncle Too and Mr Piggy excited and all of a tremble.

Whatever works is good.

They're not criminals until they've been convicted!  Question his intelligence?  That's rich!
