Police escort Buddha Issara to a court on Thursday

BANGKOK — A disgraced activist monk arrested on suspicion of royal forgery is suffering from a back pain caused by a herniated disc, a prison warden said Monday.

Suwit Thongprasert, who went by the name Buddha Issara prior to his Thursday defrocking, was placed on a wheelchair after having trouble walking, Bangkok Remand Prison chief Krit Krasaedhibaya told reporters.

He has back problems? He didn't appear to have a problem getting it off the bed when the police went calling during the night.

Perhaps it's painful trying to keep his back to the wall.

all the leader members of the bangkok shutdown and the generals behind the coup should be locked away for life.

This guy can see the back pain doctor from a prison cell like the rest of the coup members. Sad to think this is now front page news

It's time for the junta to return the favour by scratching his back.

Perhaps the back pain is from a wound from being stabbed by  a former colleague?  In related news, police believe the stabbing may have been undertaken by a former colleague, understood to be an influential figure, who may reside in the Surat Thani province of Thailand.

Too lazy to earn a living and now to lazy to walk - hopefully nobody will push him in the chair

back pain, how awful, must interfere with his meditating.

Now it starts... we had to let him go because he had back pain and his doctor said bla bla bla. This fake monk is a pain in the a***  let alone the back.

Maybe the PM could by way of apology give him a massage?

If an old man can die on the floor for a crime with no proof or not even serious for that matter, then this fraudster defrocked monk can just deal with it IMHO.

What a dangerous disease. I think it started in his brain if there is any.

If his back hurts, I suggest he stand upright, bend over and touch his toes. Good back stretch and gives other inmates a chance to know him..

All life is suffering, as Buddha said. Get used to it

Back pain, and?.......

No doubt he will need to go to a nice comfortable hospital bed for a long period of time so as to avoid those awful smelly prison cells?  As seems to be the case in many other hi-sos who are locked up.

Close - but no cigar.

“Uncle was admitted to the prison’s infirmary unit after experiencing severe stomach pains since Friday,” Amphon’s lawyer, Anon Numpa, told Reuters. “We haven’t found out the cause of death yet but he had been battling cancer.”

I hope that nobody will push him over a balcony.

And pao din in jail for LM for sharing a news story that thousands of people shared.

Many people in jail indirectly because of him.

Perhaps he could tell them about his back pain.

Same same but different.

The point is, he was in jail.

..in the backside.

I know very little about Buddhism, but didn't I read somewhere that suffering was part of learning, to reach enlightenment?

Worgeordie must have reached his enlightenment a while ago.

The sympathy & compassion from fellow Thai Visa members is simply oozing from my screen...............Okay, sarcasm mode off, I hope this disgusting piece of humanity rots in jail along with his bent embezzling cohorts.

His charges include extortion and firearms theft, but the most serious is alleged royal insignia forgery on amulets

Phwrrrr ..... crikey Bill

Extortion and firearms theft would be enough to get most mortals in seriously deep dung, but don't ever under-estimate the Lese Majeste laws in Thailand.

Ah yes, sitting on the floor like a real monk is hard without any practise.

everyone influential who goes to jail have medical problems.... police should just pick everyone up in an ambulance next time

Issara could do a great service to the people of Thailand by throwing light on the abominable conditions in Thai prisons. I find it amazing that Western nations can ignore the criminal nature of incarceration in Thailand. No nation that fails to protest the conditions in Thai prisons has any right to call themselves "civilized".
