A new router has been installed in my house, and none of the existing equipment (fairly new) is able the receive the 5 Ghz wireless signal.
All my existing eq,4 GHz uimpent see only the 2,4GHz signal which is very slow.
A technician came yesterday in my house with a cellphone, looked at the available Wireless signals, and his cellphone showed the 2.4 GHz signal AND the 5 GHz signal.
If I install a WiFi repeater which is able to receive the 802.11AC signals, would my existing equipment be able to receive the 5Ghz signal of the repeater?
Would me existing equipment be able to receive the 2.4 GHz signal at the 5 GHz speed?
TIA

Your devices need to be dual band, as was the technicians phone, to be able to receive the 5Ghz signal.

Simple as that.

If the signal and speeds are low on the 2.4Ghz band in certain areas of your home the best solution is to run a LAN cable from the existing router and at the end of that connect a wireless access point.

We have several Edimax access points which work well, all dual band as we are providing WiFi to our renters.

Powerline systems as in your link could work, but depends on how the building is wired.

There is no 4 ghz wifi. Your equipment has always run on 2.4ghz so it will not be slower than before the new router

My father has a laptop that can't access 5 GHz devices.  Most newer devices are 5 GHz compatible.  What is the make and model of the router?  Perhaps the 5 GHz settings need to be modified.  Can you log into the router?

If you have an Android phone, you can download some apps that will help debug the issue.

There are some apps with the same name:  WiFi Analyzer

I have two analyzer apps and they each display the information in a slightly different way.

You can filter by 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels to see what is broadcasting in your general area.

Last week I bought a 5ghz dongle for my laptop from Lazada for about 350 baht. Popped it in a usb slot and the speed test now shows double the download speed compared to previous 2.4ghz. But marginally slower than connecting router to laptop using ethernet cable.

Not sure if this helps but it works for me.

Sound like you dont have any 5Ghz devices. Often changing the 2.4 Ghz channel can make a big difference, especially if the neighbours are all using the same channel (default 11 in lots of routers). In my condo block if I use channel 11 the speed is 5Mbps, switch to an empty channel and its 25Mbps, As others have mentioned wifi analizer app can show the least congested channels.

Wifi analizer app wont show and 5Ghz information unless its running on a device that is 5Ghz capable.

I have tries to access 5MHz band with 5 different devices.
3 of them are less that 1 year old.

Conf: if you key 5g dongle in Lazada search, and filter low to high price, you will see lots. Some have small antenna but I bought the one without. They start at about 275 baht
