Re- Activation of MS Office Pro and MS Office 365 after update

Recommended Posts

I was wondering why two of my PC"s came up with the message that my MS office installations were not activated, but they were both genuine before the update.

It took a while to find out that the Office 2016 pro on my son’s computer wasn’t affected.

The problem seems to occur when you’ve signed onto your office account when the update takes place.

The MS Office on my son’s PC still showed that it’s genuine after the update and he wasn’t signed in to an MS Office account.

The new activations on the two mentioned PC’s do not have the option to check for updates, which I had before. Did anybody else have similar issues?

It’s not really funny when you’ve got to reactivate a product you have already paid for. No fake KMS activators were involved.

I have Ofice 2016 on my computer and I have also installed all the updates. No message at all, still working perfectly. What version of Windows are you running? I have Windows 10 and there is the update facility

Both machines have OS 64, but MS Office versions are 32 bit for various reasons. MS Office Pro + MS Office 365, both version 2016.

Both run on W 10 Pro 1803. Were you signed into your "Office Account" before you applied the update?

The update is in the settings facility. 1803 is the latest download, I have just installed on my computer. Have you tried re-booting? Sometimes that will pick the rest up

That's the first thing I've done, but without success. It only seems to affect users who've got MS Office linked to an MS account.

My Office Pro 2016 stayed activated on both my computers after updating to 1803 on 31 May.

I was not signed into my Office account during the upgrades.

Thanks, one more proof that it only happens when signed in and linked to an MS account. All was fine on my son's PC, not signed in.

I have a Microsoft Outlook email account that I have signed into and I have not had a problem. I must think about this and see if I can give any reasonable recommendations

He's not talking being able to log into his outlook.com or live.com from a browser or from the Mail app which I think you are talking about.

He's talking about being logged onto his MS account through his Microsoft Office 2016 suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.) which is no longer activated after update to 1803.

Yes I know. I have my Outlook (MS) email account in Office 2016 and it has had no problems

Just a thought, what anti virus is being used? Sounds silly I know but people using Avast with the 1803 update have had issues ranging from access problems to completely wiping out the OS

In my case after the 1803 upgrade, I had 3 installs of Office 365 giving the inactivated message. That was 3 out of 49 Office 365 Business Premium licences; all the same, no apparent reason for it to happen to the 3 computers that it happened to.

By simply clicking on the activate link, this rectified it. As said, this was for 365 installs, not sure if this differs to normal Office installs.

All these machines are logged into (and clicked to Remember) their email accounts. Once the re-activation happened, there was no need to re-enter login information to the virtual server.

Edit: Just reading gandalf12's post, we use ESET Endpoint Security and very rarely does this cause a problem.

I just remembered from around 2 years ago when I was still on Office 365 before switching to Office 2016 that my Office 365 wasn't activated after some MS major update.  But as chrisinth I just clicked the activate link and it reactivated.   But for about a minute until getting it reactivated I was feeling pretty pissed at MS.

Yep, thank you for explaining my problems, but it got better.....

I knew that reversing back by using an older image would help to get me back to genuine. But there's my wife who meant that I should drive around to get some food, instead of just buying something with the motorbike.

After she got angry because I was trying to restore my PC and wanted to be there, should something happen, she continuously drove me crazy and I finally left the thingy alone, took the truck out and we went for some dinner. I was truly shocked, until now, what had happened.

When I came back and saw that the PC had rebooted, showing "press any button to boot from CD", I thought all would be fine. But then the nightmare just started.

The machine didn't boot, just kept showing a line, but nothing happened. Okay, do it again, but I couldn't boot to get into Macrium, neither with a CD, nor with a memory stick.

Something must have messed up my PC that was running well. The one I wanted to reverse is still not functioning and my PC is on a restore trip with Macrium.

My plan was to do a lot of stuff for school, but now I feel like a complete fool that I wanted o reverse/restore to see if the MS Office would be activated.

A fight with my wife and two non-functioning PC's are the result of it. I hate myself for doing that and have absolutely no explanation what went wrong.

I've got Kaspersky Internet security, which is automatically going in a protected mood when you're doing online stuff. I personally never liked AVAST and the ugly voice that a virus has been detected,

But I'm fighting with other issues now and can't believe that a restore could mess so many things up. No idea if it's hardware related, I'm still trying to figure out what has happened.

You usually get five licenses and a much bigger One Drive program. Considering that I first had activated my MS Office 2016, then also installed MS Office 365, it's quite amazing ( I'm so pissssed) how MS is dealing with it after such a damn update.

When it rains it pours....and the wife creating thunder don't help.   Hope you get your computers running 100% again and soon.

I am still very confused as to why you would want to do that. With the exception of Business Essentials and E1, all other Office 365 packages include a fully installed Office 2016 to your system. Certainly the ones that offer 5 separate installs of Office. Using two different payment methods, this would get pretty expensive as well, even with low price keys for Office 2016. Office 365 is subscription only.

I am pretty sure this would not be a recommendation from Microsoft as there would surely be conflict somewhere.

I'm not sure if the pricing is correct here as Access is now included in the fully installed office application package, but regardless, this is what you get.

The older one, also a Lemel is still down. Can't boot with CD, nor with an external drive. My main PC gave me a big headache after I had the hd from the problem machine connected.

Even when I had created System Restore Points they were not working!!!

I just did another restore of my main PC but had three blue blackouts. Then the next surprise. The troubleshooter of my W 10 Pro doesn't work for that type of OS I've got. I kid you not.

Then MS's superficial help with a troubleshooter, they're aware that many people are suffering. I hope that I can upload the tool here for those who're going through a living hell like me.

I thought that I'd be pretty good with soft and hardware, but today was my worst day in computing. And that with a wife who doesn't talk anymore.

Some explanation to her that she should never come with some baby <deleted> when I'm doing serious stuff, seemed to have worked.

I'd left the older thingy alone and didn't see what happened, so I'll try this week how to solve it.

My newer Lemel seems to work after this tool attached. Please see screenshot. Lesson plans and worksheets must still be produced, just don't know by whom.

I was so close today to throw the older Lemel against the wall, that would have fixed the problem for sure. But I'd like to know why I can't get it into the right mood. I went to a friend who's got a computer shop and with his program, I could at least format my hd, of course, is all gone, but I've got it on my main PC.

Please see screenshot for the fixes. The tool is attached as well, I hope it works. God.....

I hope that my wife will leave me alone in the future when I'm in such a situation and is not talking about food that finally took two days of my life away. Need a beer now. Cheers and thanks.

P.S. The wu170509.diagcab is the Update troubleshooter that really works.

Crazy idea but have you tried asking Microsoft about the problem? Some times they actually do give good information
