New Passport, Stamp Transfer?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just applied for a new PP and will be picking it up in 2-3 weeks time. I am now on an 60 extension to a single NON-O visa.
I will exit the country by the end of this month, so I will be leaving with both - old and new - passports.
Generally, the advise seems to be that they will transfer last stamp to the new PP. But I am not sure about the "letter from the consulate".
Some previous reports state that this letter is a requirement others have had no trouble without it.
I am not quite sure but seem to remember that the last time I had to change to a new PP, I managed without the letter. But that was years ago.

So what is the situation now?

I will either exit via the bridge at NK or via the airport to Penang.

The letter is only needed when doing the stamp transfer at the majority of immigration offices.

At airports and border crossings it is not normally required.

In your case I suggest you have the stamp transfer done at a immigration office since you have a 60 day extension to visit your wife or child.

With 30 day extensions of tourist visa or visa exempt entries it is not a problem. All others should be done at a immigration office.

Thanks for replying. I was stamped out in the new PP at Nong Khai Friendship Bridge. Immigration office was
not required and no other document apart from old and new PP was asked for.
