Note that if one has been staying for a while in Thailand, the Thai Consulate in Hong Kong may be grilling you a little bit.

"April 2018 Update: After 3 consecutive in-and-out border runs in Thailand, I went to the Hong Kong Thai embassy to apply for a proper 60 day Tourist Visa – and was interrogated heavily. I was asked what I was doing in Thailand for so long (I work online), and was asked to show a bank statement, or they would not process my visa application. It seems Thai immigration is getting tougher these days for those of us doing non-stop tourist visas. However, for those of you applying for your first, second, or even third Tourist Visa,  Non-B (work visa) or Non-O (marriage or retirement visa), you should still have no problem applying in Hong Kong and I continue to recommend it."

Having a bank statement is advisable.

about two years ago, i emailed the HK consulate about the possibility of a US citizen obtaining a non imm O 'retirement' visa (i wasn't asking about the O-A).  the response i got back was they do not issue them.  has anyone obtained one there ? the OP suggests it is possible.

The positive of it is that it seems that guy had his passport full of SETVs and visa exempts and they still issued a visa, but requested a bank statement.

Just found the article online and thought I would update, since he says it's as of April 2018.

Did not go to HK for a while but it should still be an excellent choice for future trips.

Love it. This is the right way forward. The stricter, the better.

I also love it when some are under the impression it only applies for tourist visas, forgetting it's becoming tighter on all types of visas and extensions.

But then again, those people will be blaming the overstayers and tourist visas abusers for issues on their own say non O's for retirement.

i hope my post didn't sound like i was questioning the report, etc...  posts on this topic, even if recvd from a third party are great info and most appreciated.  i'm thinking of getting a new non imm O so i can push back the date for the annual extension to late june or july.  i have friends living in HK so it is the most logical place to get one in the region (if they offer them) as i visit HK often.  i'll stop in and ask them in person on my trip later this month.

My previous post was not targeted at you but the other poster that probably blames or will blame tourist visa users for his potential misfortunes.

In my experience, the Consulate in Hong Kong is pretty friendly when it comes to issuing visas, we had reports of non B's single being issued there without the WP3 for example.

As long as it's single entry, I am confident their friendliness would extend to other type of visas such as non O.

I can't give you a definite answer since I don't recall a reported case here (it could be I just don't remember), so maybe a search on the forum or a call /email to the consulate would be a good idea.

Why?  What is the upside for Thai businesses having fewer customers?  There are no handouts, etc being abused by repeat-tourists - just money being spent.

If crowding, traffic, and overloaded-infrastructure is the issue, it's the short-term Chinese visitors who are the cause of that.

I believe he is contemplating moving to North Korea, where everything is strict to his liking.

i visited the thai consulate in HK today.  as noted in a post above, i wanted to confirm whether or not they issue non imm O's.  the answer is no.  they only issue them for dependents.  so the facebook info in the OP is wrong with respect to non imm O's for retirement.
