Seminar teaches students to say no

PATTAYA:--Students were taught how to say no to sex during an ATPD seminar to help reduce human trafficking and youth prostitution.

As many as 200 students, teachers, representatives from child protection centers and social security officials attended the May 30 Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division’s “18 Don’ts Seminar” at the D’Varee Hotel in Jomtien.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kornchai Klaiklueng, commander of Thailand’s Human Trafficking Suppression Division, chaired the seminar and talked about the recent shift in society’s mores and the effect social media is having on youths.

Kornchai said social media makes human trafficking harder to detect. Society has changed as well, as young people tend to splurge on brand name products instead of saving. They fall into debt and are lured into prostitution and selling drugs by promises of easy money and getting rich quick. He said pregnancy rates of women under 18 is on the rise, which he also blames on social media.

I'm glad about that.

Not a single one of the science books I found, tell children abstinence is an option to prevent disease and pregnancy. After sex education to my son, he was so worried about having to go through this experience. He was incredibly relieved when I explained he didn't have to think about that until he was 18. All anyone talks about is condoms these days. Most children don't even understand that they have the right to say no.

There is no word for 'No' in the Thai language; it translates as 'Not yes.'  Why do you think I came to Thailand in the first place?

all this media attention and awareness is great...but the bottom line is ''thai males have such arrogance and inflated egos, and most rage filled,''how does a girl remain safe , when she is usually outnumbered and sometimes dealing a person of authority...be honest here,NO only works in a rational situation...if the choice is death or submission, the choice is obvious..

The normal way for a Thai lady to say 'no', is by never being alone with a man.

That's just common sense.

Remember the public outcry of all those drunk on moralin and Thainess when they installed vending machines for condoms at restrooms in an university?

lured. . .  by promises of easy money and getting rich quick.

Just like all those bent police, politicians, public officials, monks - you name it.

Isn't it called Thainess?

Just like to remind people that that they are talking about children that are transitioning to teenagers. Not the ladies the you meet at your local bar.

Saying no to sex and saying no to money are two very different issues
