Cdma Phone Coverage Thailand

Featured Replies

I bought a CDMA cell phone in Australia about 6 yrs ago which I used for 2 yrs before moving to LOS. It seems Thailand has since caught up and CDMA coverage is more widely available here now.

I'd like to dust off my phone and put it to use again. Am living on Phuket and wondering what the regional coverage is like.

Anyone currently using CDMA outside of Bangkok and particularly in the south?

AFAIK Hutch is the only CDMA operator in Thailand.

They have a coverage map on their website, it doesn't look good in the south of Thailand.

I assume they operate a 800 Mhz CDMA network (in addition to possibly rolling out a CDMA2000 network) and that your phone might also be 800 Mhz.

Hutch's coverage is not very wide, but for phone calls you get automatically connected to CAT's cdma network which is almost nationwide!

Do note that internet access through Hutch is only possible when in a Hutch area, in the CAT area only phone calls are possible!

CAT is rolling out the cdma EV-DO network (currently only in Phuket AFAIK), with speeds of over 1mbps attainable!!!

Any news when CAT's EV-DO network will be available in BKK? Last I heard was 'November 2006' !!

I can't get ADSL in my apartment, so I'm really hanging out for this.
