NACC axes 2010 crackdown probe

By The Nation

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on Thursday voted unanimously not to revive the case of the violent 2010 crackdown on the red-shirt demonstration, citing no new evidence.

The NACC had ruled in 2015 that ex-prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban were not guilty after they had been accused of ordering protest dispersals in May 2010 that killed nearly 100 protesters and injured thousands.

The red-shirt umbrella United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) had a petition with the NACC to review the closed case following a court’s verdict that confirmed the bullets killing protesters were fired by the military.

The NACC voted eight to zero that its previous verdict was correct. However, the agency would pass on the evidence that the UDD had presented to the Department of Special Investigation which was working on the crackdown case against the soldiers.

Petition to revive the case against Abhisit on 2010 crackdown on red-shirts rejected

By Thai PBS

The National Anti-Corruption Commission has again turned down a proposal for it to revive a case in which former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and some other people were accused of ordering the crackdown on the red-shirts demonstrators of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship in 2010, causing at least 99 deaths and hundreds of injuries.

The case was originally filed by the UDD against Mr Abhisit, former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who was in charge of security affairs, and Gen Anupong Paojinda, the then army chief.

They were accused of abuse of power by ordering the armed crackdown on the UDD protesters between April 10 and May 19, 2010.

Surprise, surprise!

Oh, to be on the 'right' side. Then you can get away with murder and conspiracy towards high treason.

Perhaps now the NACC has cleared this most difficult and long considered case from its books it can now find time to look into the ownership of several watches by a well known General. Always an optimist.

100 or so dead, thousands injured...

Wasn't me! I didn't do anything! I'm not responsible! I was only PM! I didn't do anything! Not my fault!

It is waaaaaaaay beyond shame...

The ruling is sad but expected.  The junta has the yellows to thank for their control of the country.  It will curry favor from the hapless party which only seems to be able to stage sit ins successfully.

Quelle surprise! N'est pas?

Who woulda thunk it?
