Flying out of BKK airport with no visa stamp on new passport

Featured Replies

My ED Visa school told me to get a new passport so they could restart my ED Visas, but the issue is that doing a land border run with a fresh passport and no transferred stamp isn't an option. The school says they can not get me another ED visa if the stamp is transferred, so this option is off the table.

A visa run company told me my best option is to go to Laos by plane. At the airport the officer will either stamp a cancellation on the old passport (which has 2 holes punched) or they will stamp the new one with a note saying 'visa is in the old passport.' Both of these options would be fine for me and my school as the visa would not be transfered to the new passport.

Has anyone gone through this process via air travel at BKK airport? Does the stamping process happen as explained?

Why did you have to get a new passport? Not enough pages or about to expire?

As long as you have both passports immigration will most likely move your stamp. Call your embassy to get more information.

Afaik they transfer the entry stamp from the old passport in the new passport and then add the departure stamp to it.

Go out via a land border, get 30 days then then use this time to get your new PP,  when the new PP arrives (assuming if you haven't got it already) get your 30 day stamp transferred into your new PP at Immigration within Thailand then get the school to apply for your new ED visa paperwork from the MOE, you can extend your 30 days by another 30 days which should give enough time for the paperwork to be completed

I don't see why you can't do a land crossing and have to fly out? Plenty of people leave via land crossings on ED Visas. if not get a Tourist Visa from Laos which will give you more time, Thaivisaservice provide a good alternative if you don't want to fly

I'm pretty sure I know what you are doing but don't publish to much about it on here

Get your new Passport

Apply for your new ED visa

Yes, this would have been the right order. I didn't realize my school owner didn't know the proper order until I asked him about the stamp transfer issue.

It is too late now. Unless I want to get yet another new passport. I already have the new one.

Maybe I need to re-look into how long I can do tourist visa runs back to back on a passport with nothing but an expired ED visa. I haven't done those in years.

Why is it to late? Have you already had your stamps transferred?

You will be able to get 3-5 TV from Vientiane and probably more after that from Savanakhet

I would guess his old passport has holes it in, or is otherwise unusable for departure and entry to another country.  He will need to show the old passport upon exit from Thailand, because Thai Immigration will have to transfer his last entry-stamp to the new passport, in order to apply the corresponding departure-stamp.

This was my thinking, as well.  Studying Thai is permitted while on TR Visas, so no issue there.

@Hal65Provided you use land-checkpoints to enter Thailand other than the Poipet/Aranyaprathet crossing, you can use your new passport for TR Visas for 1 to 2 more years - albeit with the hassle of extensions of 60-day entries, plus out/back for new TR Visas.

Ok, that doesn't seem too bad other than the hassles. Poipet is the closest to me though (I'm in Pattaya) do they regularly deny the tourist visa? I went to them about 3 years ago, they wanted a 100 baht bribe at the time.

Actually the Ban Pakard crossing is the nearest crossing to Pattaya. It is where most people from there go to from there,

You would be surprised how quickly PP fill up, after 4 TV's, and 4 VE all with extensions mine was completely full

Of course you don't have to wait until it's full before applying for a new PP (UK PP)
