Police to summon self-claimed witness in Trang murder case for questioning

Police will summon for questioning a person who has claimed he knew that a murder convict who was executed by lethal injection on June 18 in Trang province was not the real culprit, Pol Lt Col Prasert Songsaeng, the deputy chief of Trang police, said on Saturday (June 23).

Pol Lt Col Prasert said that the person claimed that Thirasak Longji, 26, who was executed, was not involved in the murder of Danudet Sukmak, a Mathayom Sueksa 5 student, six years ago. Danudet was stabbed 24 times and robbed of a mobile phone and a wallet.

Concerning this matter, that person will be summoned for questioning. It is not clear whether that person’s claim is true or false, Pol Lt Col Prasert said. He did not identify the person.

The issue is not if he is innocent or not. The issue is he was poor, 19 years old and convicted because someone identified him.  he claimed innocence throughout the trial. There is now doubt about his guilt. The rushed , unchecked execution was an abomination in itself.

"...Police from Muang police station on Friday went to the Somdet Phra Srinakarin 95 public park in the Trang Municipality where Danudet was murdered six years ago to re-enact the crime and look for more evidence to hunt for another murder suspect who was still at large.

Pol Lt Col Prasert said the re-enactment of crime had nothing to do with the execution of Thirasak because the death sentence on him was handed down by the court of the first instance and upheld by the two higher courts..."

Police went to the park SIX YEARS later to 'look for more evidence"? What precisely do they think they will find after SIX YEARS?

There is another murder suspect "still at large"? How can you execute someone for murder when there is another suspect "still at large"?

To those who believe in the Death Penalty; do you still think it was proper to execute the young man based on what we have learned within ONE WEEK of him being killed? Do you still believe that the case was decided 'beyond a reasonable doubt'?

Madness!

Pure madness!

Of course it will be found to be false. What other outcome could there be?

Think of the embarrassment and loss of face for the police if it were found to be true. Under that option, so far as the RTP is concerned, any final justice can go to hell.

Just another headline-seeking cop.

And the worst part is, they don't even have a long trial by jury. His trial probably got 3 days with a barely educated lawyer against a well educated prosecutor. Thailand justice is not scrupulous enough to allow a single execution.

That witness should run.

Run run far far away and never come back to this country.

I wonder why this young man was chosen to be executed,

he had only been on death row for 6 years, and I am sure

there are many more killers that have been on death row a

lot longer, and in this case with another suspect still on the

run,to execute a potential witness if the other suspect

gets arrested, seem strange to say the least.

Dead.

One week later, open case again.

This why no death penalty.

The only country in the world, where the investigation starts after the execution.

That's what his mother is saying. There are people much older than him, been on death row for many years before he went in prison.

Why him? Why now?

What religion is he?

I'm not sure but I think he's from a Muslim area.

But I didn't see the family wearing a scarf. But sometimes they don't.

no embarrassment for the police -  the police charged him, the courts found him guilty and ordered his execution.

He is Muslim.  I saw pictures of his funeral in one of the Thai papers.
