Mangmoon card holders still cannot access BTS train service

A total of 200,000 Mangmoon cards have been distributed to members of the public and many cardholders have started to use the cards today (Saturday) for travelling on the Purple Line and Blue line trains, but not with the BTS Skytrain service because the ticketing systems are not yet connected pending negotiations between the two operators –BTS and MRTA (Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand).

The Mangmoon cards are supposed to be “common tickets” which can be used by the commuters to travel on all modes of public transport, including skytrain, subway, city bus and airport rail link service.  But this is yet to be realized although 200,000 Mangmoon cards have already been distributed.

However, it is expected that starting October 1, holders of Mangmoon cards can use the cards to travel on the city bus when many city buses will then be installed with E-ticketing system and, then in the next step, the service of Airport Rail Link.

They're a joke!

Releasing cards before they can be used everywhere on public transport is just plain stupid....!

Why is anyone surprised? Is there anything they can ever get right the first time around?

I suppose little different to setting fares for HS trains that don't even exist.

How these people manage to get through the day is an amazing feat.

That may take a while because they are busy with the production of 500.000 cards for the bullet train service to be available next week.

Knowing how public-spirited the management of the BTS system is - see the current, once-in-a-lifetime, super-generous one Baht off per journey for stored-value card users - I predict that negotiations allowing the use of Mangmoom cards across the whole Bangkok transport system will be concluded and implemented sometime around 2600 BE.

(We are currently in the year 2561BE).

Some would think BC.

Is it really 2018?

They are a laughingstock.

For decades big cities around the world were able to setup integrated public transport.

And systems that are way bigger than this meager rail/subway net.

The sky's the limit for BTS profits! Why would they ever want to share their booty with other transit? Esp Constitutional mandates like senior cards for all.

Negotiations on revenue sharing would mean they need to open up the books and allow for transparency. Can't imagine why they wouldn't want to do that ?

Meanwhile, Monday morning...

They just do it mate, without a clue about how silly they look.

So what benefits I have now from using the Mangmoom card? Just another new card for replacing my existing MRT card.
I highly doubt that the bus systems and other transport will be added soon or on time in October.
But we will see

Ancient Thai proverb: one-legged spider walk funny.
