Just been staying at a hotel in this area. Every time i come out i see people trying to get taxi's and they are refused. I thought there was supposed to be a clampdown on this but it seems not serious. Is it that people are not offering enough money? There are far too many of them anyway , and i would have thought it is better to get a fare, than just driving around all day.

Either the taxi does not want to use the taxi meter or the customer wants to go to a location where the taxi don't want to go

Easily avoidable by using Grab Taxi

many of them refuse fares if it's not where they want to go.

they may think there's too much traffic, or they may know they can't get a return fare from where they are going when coming back downtown after dropping you off, for example if it's in a warehouse district or somewhere there are not a lot of people on the sidewalk.very inconvienient if you have to take heavy stuff home, or when moving. tuk tuks are the same, just charging more because they know your having a problem getting a taxi in that area.

not like other countries where people are doing a job and do what they are told, here it's just farm boys driving around who to put it bluntly are just plain stupid and do things that don't make sense. you could offer a 1000 baht note to many of them instructing them to just drive they way you point with your finger and they would refuse and argue the point about where your headed to.

Yes this is understandable. Not allowed, but understandable

Unless a first time tourist, with a destination within 500m-2km from their destination - then nobody takes a Tuk Tuk.  Not comparable to the OP's post

This bit is just nonsense.  and, nobody with half a brain will offer 1,000 baht for a fare, poor example
