Next week ill be doing a fresh install of windows, wont be fun but a new computer means new install. Its always hard to get the right apps back. I did safe most of my licenses so I should be ok. It just takes a while before the computer is configured in a way you really like.

Thanks a lot. I've now done something which I still don't understand? After working with the registry, enabling and disabling quite a lot of crap, it did the update, but with the usual undo now, because it wasn't successful Bs.

But looking at my updates now, it seems to have worked, even with the odd messages.

Here's a great program to check all your keys, shows you all the information, etc.

I've found an easy solution to fix many problems, including the update issue.

I've found the program online and could separate the file for easy use.

You can find most of these steps on various websites, but this tool is outstanding and does all without a restart.

I've fixed both machines with this tool and I'm glad that it's over. There's no virus, it must have been produced by somebody who knew what he's doing.

Please try it and report back. See attachment, no idea if you can download it.

Please see screenshot what tasks you can do, I've tried all of them and they're flawless. It works on 64, but also on 86 architectures.

I am staying with Windows 7 until the end of support.

I recently updated two Windows 10 computers for friends.  I know close to zero about computers, but my friends know even less, so thought I would try to help.

The update, on both machines, took hours, and of course got frozen on of certain percentages.  I had to Google for the fixes, so I can appreciate the frustration many are experiencing with Windows 10.

As I said in another thread, I am staying with Windows 7 until the end, because they are not messing with it anymore, just supporting it, mainly with security patches, but Windows 10 continues to throw up new issues that the owner must research, like consulting forums, in order to keep it functional.

For me, that's a lot of time and effort, not to mention frustration, for little to no extra benefit.

I am not having a go at those using Windows 10.  I am usually an early adopter of technology, but not with Windows operating systems, after experiencing a horror story with Vista, so I will hold out for Windows 11.  ?

What makes you think going from Win 10 to Win 11 would be any different/easier than going from Win 7 or 8 to Win 10.

You should really not offer help others with upgrading if in your own words " you know close to zero about computers"......

I upgraded every machine in the house about 6 months before it even launched with zero issues and so did everyone I know...... Its a 1 click install to upgrade

How can you mess that up?

Fair question.

My answer is, history.

Windows Vista was a disgrace, that got fixed, quite quickly, and became Windows 7.  Right?

Then there was Windows 8, what a mess it was, and after a global backlash, became Windows 8.1.  Right?

Windows 10, well, it's the OS that just keeps giving, every update.  ?

Why should  I be a Microsoft Beta user on Windows 10, when I can sit back and let all the bugs get sorted out, and either get Windows 11, or Windows 10 with the 2089 update????  ?

Firstly, both machines were already Windows 10, from the factory.  Both machines were upgraded, despite my limited knowledge, but it was not an easy and user friendly upgrade experience.

As far as how can you mess up a 1 click upgrade, well, I suppose this whole thread, as well as many others, globally, are about people who, somehow, seem to mess up a 1 click upgrade.  ?
