Hello.

I'm a 29 year old German citizen and my partner (not a Thai citizen) is going to start a long-term position in Bangkok, Thailand in the end of the year.

We want to go together and I am not sure that his company is going to help me with a visa. We are planning to stay at least 7 years and starting a family in Thailand.

I would like to hear what possibilities I have to stay in Bangkok long-term.

So far I know that I could get an education visa for up to a year. I could of course find a job that would provide me with a visa, but that seems really hard with the requirements (I don't have a full degree). And the last resort would be a tourist visa and visa runs, but here I heard mixed things, regarding being let in again or not.

I'm happy to hear your insights.

If you are legally married to your partner and they get a extension of stay based upon working you can get a extension of stay for being their spouse.

You first would need to have a non-o visa issued by a embassy or consulate to apply for the extension.

If not married you only option may be to use tourist visas or attend school to get a non-ed visa and extensions of stay for attending school.

We are not married yet, but planning on getting married in the near future.

Currently in a civil partnership (usually the same rights). Is that worth anything in Thailand?

Thailand does not recognize civil partnerships.

Get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa before you go this covers 8-9 months, and while you are in Thailand you can still decide what you want to do.

You can then try to find a job, or decide to study, or maybe you don't like to live in Bangkok, or your partner can't leave his hands from the Thai girls or whatever ?
