My favourite Japanese bike ever made.

Hopefully i will own one one day. There are legit ones about over here.

The magnificent Yamaha (what else) MT01. A bike i believe before it's time, 2005-2012.

Hugely expensive new, poor sales, and of course, now they've stopped making them, everybody wants one and they've become a cult bike.

Neither of these are std. In fact most these days are'nt...

Absolute tree puller of an engine in these .. Something like 110 lb/ft of torque at less than 4000 rpm .. And yep if you can find one they are strong money now ..

Not only USA. The first one I saw was in a bike shop in Tooting Bec. Designed by an American, Craig Vetter but was also on sale in the old home country too. I once met him in UK at the largest gather (in UK) of his bike, my mate had an unused example.

Yeah stock they knock out more torque just off idle than an R1 at full chat !

Stage 1 kit  has 130 Ib/ft. Stage 2 kit 150 Ib/ft and 150 bhp.

I missed a legit tatty one (needed cosmetic work, tyres etc) in CM last year for 250k which I thought was reasonable. I've seen nice legit ones for 330-360k.

Checked on e*ay , £6000 up for a mid 2000's in GB topping out at 8/9k for later models .. You never seem to see high milers of these and a lot of 'em have had a lot of money spent on additional parts and accessories which hints sometimes they are w/e or pleasure use only .. Strong bike though with a ripper of an engine ..

There's a guy in Skandinavia somewhere with a tuned stage 1 MT01 with in excess of 450,000 kms on it. The cases, ie bottom end, have never been apart.

Bloody Yamaha building bikes that reliable'll be putting mechanics outta work .. I guessed you were talking Thai prices for one when I was looking e*bay and the comparison is quite similar , top priced one in Kent mint 2008 , 3000 miles £8995 ( optimistic ) down to some well used mid 2000's around 5/6 grand .. They hold ther money well and likely as not will start going up in future .. Yes A Millyard does it all in a shed at the side his house and don't use no modern C C machine tools .. its all old skool with him .. I'm pleased you like the modern Hurricane above I stumbled on it whilst flicking thru some photo's an' thought the tvf lads might enjoy this so I got another for you .. Though this isnt a Trumpet hope you like ..

Yeah this guy is reknowned for working with Yamaha Corporation AND working with old Viragos. An American with a good eye for detail and a great skill turning Viragos into looking (a bit) like Vincents. Who'da thunk it?

IMHO the above bike is a masterclass in customizing. And one of the nicest bikes out there.

Back in the early ‘80s I knew a guy that put a 900 kaw in a 3-wheel golf-cart, f’n death-trap.

He switched it to a 4-Wheeler but still not much better..

A mate of mine in England has a fair bit of land, a large m/c collection ranging from 50's racers to modern stuff, a V8 drag car and is a reknowned fast petrol head and complete nutter. He's also quite wealthy.

He had/has one of these quad things, ya know 4 wheel off road cart things. His has a GPZ1100 motor in it. Tuned.

He was showing off on it (that boy can ride!!!!!!), then insisted I have a go.

Give it some he shouted as I roared off.

I did.

In my underpants.

Utter utter fruitcake scariness.

Spot on mate I'm glad you like it .. That Yam' V twin lump out of the Virago's TR1's etc is the nearest I think that Japan produced that looked like an olde worlde V twin from days gone bye which is why it has been a pop choice for customisers .. And the Chameleon is one of many that put it to good effect .. Also a front drummer ..

I believe it's the same guy who Yamaha asked to do something with the newly released XSR700 at the time. The Faster Sons Yamaha custom program in America.

So he built a custom matching XS650 and XSR700. Stunning. Faster Father AND Son....

A rare bike on the ground at the best of times even rarer to see one cooled out like this baby .. Guzz' I know you'll guess what it is in one , any others takers on the make though .? Would have been nice to have kept it in period with a nice polished drum brake up front ..

Edward Turner Was God. But unfortunately this was not one of his better creations (designs).

The Ariel Square 4.

Could'nt tell you if it was a Mk I or Mk II, not too many about on my manor (guv) and I never did manage to look inside one nor work on one.

Not my cup of tea how it has been customized.

Front end looks wrong, as you say, really wants a drum brake on the front.

Forks are ridiculously too long - look how they are pulled thru the top yoke. Either shorten them or find correct length ones.

Or drop them a bit down again and give it a modicum of suspension movement....

Solo seat and springs look wrong - springs are too long for starters.

Sorry.

An utterly stunning Rob North BSA Rocket 3 ..

IMHO not this particular one. Tridents are brilliant as are Rob North chassis triples, but this was one has been built not to my taste;

rear seat hump too bulbous

handlebars way too tall

headlamp brackets way too long

top & bottom yokes (triple trees for 'Mercan readers) ugly

front mudguard not in keeping with a Brit bike

Having said all that - I wouldn't say no...……..

Yea the Ariel i stumbled across and being such a rare bike and a stripped down one at that thought I'd pitch it in .. The R N Rocket was one featured in a Magazine a few years ago with loads of photo's that was deeply impressive for myself anyway maybe the one I've put up doesn't do it justice .. Any ol'e road up c'mon guys the O P is all inclusive let's see some bikes offa other poster's ..
