Keeree Kanjanapas, chairman of Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC), chief executive Surapong Laoha-Unya, and management committee chair Dr Anat Abhabhirama, have announced a mitigation measure for passengers affected by delays on the Skytrain service.

The company confirmed that it had now set up mitigation measures applicable to service delays lasting more than 30 minutes providing such delays are not caused by force majeure. The mitigation measure for each type of ticket is as follows:

Train delays of more than 30 minutes.

Passengers holding Single Journey Tickets can redeem these for a cash refund within the same day at a ticket office, or can receive/retain a ticket of the same value that is valid for travel within 14 days from date of issue.

For passengers holding Rabbit Card for Adult, Student and Senior Citizen, fares will not be deducted upon exit through a gate assigned by a member of the station’s staff.

For passengers holding a 30-Day Pass for Adult or Student, fares will not be deducted in cases where the train service is delayed but they must exit through a gate assigned by a station staff member. They will also receive an additional 2 trips per day of delay.

For the train service delays that occurred from June 25 to 27, BTS will provide reimbursement for passengers as follows:

Passengers holding Single Journey Ticket during the train failures can retain the ticket and use it within 14 days from date of issue. Those who do not wish to travel may request a cash refund at the ticket office of all BTS Stations by July 31.

Passengers holding Rabbit Card for Adult, Student and Senior Citizen during the same period of delays receive 3 additional trips while passengers holding a 30-Day Pass for Adult or Student with trips remaining on their pass during the train services delay, receive an additional 6 trips. Passengers may contact any BTS Ticket Office to receive special additional trips quoting to BTS Lift up Your LifeFM-PRV-008 Rev.02

How does the passenger holding Rabbit card gets 3 trips? They will get 3 free trips or cash return? And those using 30 days pass on extension line, they also got 15B deducted on top of normal trip. Will they get back the extra deduction?

I'm pretty sure most passengers would prefer the money to be used to improve the signaling system?

They aren't giving any compensation for normal rabbit cards or single use cards, the title is misleading.  Only in the case of trip rabbit cards are they giving any 'compensation' and actually they're giving freebies in that instance, not monetary reimbursement.

And how many people won't bother queuing up for the refund/additional trips and exit through the ticket gate and not the swing gate...

BANGKOK — BTS Skytrain officials said Thursday they will refund commuters for delays they faced while queuing for the train last week.

The massive BTS delays and outages from June 25 to June 27 – a month that saw almost 20 of them – left many stranded in crowded queues for hours. If you were one of them, here’s how to get a refund starting Saturday and continuing until July 31.

It would have been  simple to let all the passenger use the BTS free during the following  week on Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday,  the same 3 weekdays the problems occurred.

They are quite optimistic people wouldn't want to take the trouble queuing for the free trips. Not sure how they system works but if all card holders trips are recorded in system, they could just program the system to reimburse the trips instead of getting it done at counters.

I just did a regular top up at the counter on the regular rabbit card (cash value, not trips). While I was there I asked the girl about compensation, and right away she printed me off a second receipt, six free trips, value of 156 baht. Had to give name and phone number, but it took all of 20 seconds. Not yet sure if these trips are on my card or I have to take the receipt to the gate. Says trips need to be used before August 22nd.
