Air Force organizes Drone & UAV seminar

 

 

BANGKOK, 19th July 2018 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has organized a seminar on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, due to the implications of wider drone usage on civil aviation safety and national security. 

RTAF Commander-in-chief, Air Chief Marshal Johm Rungswang chaired the seminar, which was open to drone enthusiasts and members of the general public. He said one of the objectives of the seminar was to publicize regulations on drone usage, especially within a nine-kilometer radius of airports and strategic locations of national security. 

Air Chief Marshal Johm took the opportunity to explain the RTAF’s legal mandate. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Transport, the military branch is responsible for enforcing laws as they relate to the operation of drones. He also revealed that any drones with cameras or other special features must be registered with the government and flight plans must be approved for the sake of aviation safety. 

The RTAF Commander-in-chief lamented improper drone usage, especially during the cave rescue operation in Chiang Rai province. 

Drone sales have been on the rise, prompting the need for government regulation. Owners should register their drone within a week of purchase. Authorities are considering requiring a license to operate drones.

crap if my drone ways less than 2kilo with NO camera its ok, add camera and suddenly it becomes a lethal weapon??

Seems a reasonable idea. Drones, it appears, have now reached the same high danger status as dartboards which also require a licence. I don't recall them having a seminar on dartboards.

If only there was some consistency and logic then it would make it much easier to understand why they do certain things.

Ditch all the Thai Air force planes and go drone. Drones could carry decent payloads. Plus 14 yr old kid could operate and reduce wages. More kick backs up the line.

Headline tomorrow. Budget of 800 million approved to study and develop midget manned UAV's. Luxury study trip already undertaken to Russia though June and July.
