Government prepares alternative plans to deal with adoption of primary vote system

BANGKOK, 20 July 2018 (NNT) – The government has designed a number of options to deal with the adoption of the primary vote system at the next general election.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Thursday that the Office of the Council of State has already planned five approaches for the government to take in dealing with the planned adoption of the primary vote system.

Mr. Wissanu stated that the first option is to abort the plan at the upcoming election but to bring it into use in subsequent polls – an approach that he noted could be in violation of the Constitution.

The second option is to adopt the system for the constituency vote as was originally planned, while the third option is to use it only in the provincial poll as allowed in the suspending clause, he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the remaining two options are to adopt the primary vote for the regional vote and to find an alternative system to allow political party members to have a similarly active role in the upcoming poll.

Mr. Wissanu said that the National Council for Peace and Order will weigh up the pros and cons of all approaches and also their practicality while considering each approach’s legal compliance, as well as responses from all political parties before making a decision, as it is not an urgent matter until the constituency designation is completed.

Meanwhile, President of the Election Commission, Supachai Somcharoen said that the new team of commissioners is ready to take office while expressing his confidence in their ability and experience to conduct a smooth election.

One vote for you, ten votes for me

The days of bribery and vote buying are gonna look like the good ole days

Hey, whatever it takes to win. If you don't have the best candidate in the race but have the power to change the rules...you change the rules!! Just an extension, although a little bolder, than what has been happening for the past several years.

That's never held up a military junta before nor even more recently during Prayut's regime this year. Even the political parties are calling for Prayut to invoke Article 44 to clean up the primary vote mess.

The fact that the junta really wants to see the primary vote system used rather than bypassed likely means that there's some significant benefit to the junta that's not readily apparent.

Its the vote counting that will end up the biggest question.

The main question would be, when have these people ever stopped doing something that is in violation of the constitution, the very reason they are here is a violation of the constitution. The fact that these problems are here now, is another piece of evidence they have no clue what the hell they are doing, none whatsoever. Idiots.

he look so yung n handsum with his jet black hair, is  all thats worth commenting on here

All votes are to write in pencil so when the votes are counted the people who are counting them have been issued with rubbers to cancel out the votes, not for the government candidate
