Immigration hope arrest of three illegal Myanmar teens will lead to ringleaders in fake visa probe

Immigration police in Aranyaprathet interrogated three Myanmar nationals found with fake stamps in their passport.

 

The teens thought they were genuine stamps from the Thai embassy in Yangon. 

 

But the cops pointed out to the group - two 18 year old men and a 19 year old woman - that there were irregularities. 

 

Utilized was spelled "ulilized", the name of an official called Mr Jaturon was spelled "Jatuturon and the 'garuda' official stamp was not clear as it should be. 

 

The Myanmar teens told investigators they had paid 8,500 baht each for a quick service from a man called "See Doo" in Myawaddy. 

 

Investigators believe that they can get a warrant in Sa Kaew province that will lead to the arrest of "See Doo" who is probably one of the people behind the fake stamp scandal. 

 

It was reported earlier in the week that up to 20,000 Myanmar people could be living in Thailand on visas involving fake stamps from their home country. 

 

Authorities in Myanmar are involved in a big operation to find those responsible.

If that's a valid criteria, I must have received dozens of "fake" one-year extensions in my various passports over the decades, because the "garuda official stamp" on all of them always is blurry and smeared, often  little more than a big red blob with unrecognizable patterns in it. All extensions were issued by Bangkok immigration, of course. Go figure.
