New Customs Act to transform Thailand into regional distribution hub

BANGKOK, 25 July 2018 (NNT) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce held a seminar to raise awareness about the new Customs Act B.E. 2560 among Thai importers and exporters to ensure they have correct understanding.

The seminar was held with an aim to educate import and export business operators about certain changes made to the customs law particularly regarding a duty free zone. The Customs Act now recognizes areas where imported goods are waiting to be shipped to a third country duty free zones, hoping to promote Thailand as a regional trading and distribution hub.

According to Customs Department Deputy Director-General Kitti Suttisumpun, even though the Customs Department’s tax collection revenues have declined since the customs law was amended; it has been compensated by the collection of fees related to the distribution of commodities in the new duty free zones.

He claimed that there is a 40% increase in the number of import and export companies using this type of duty free zone to store their imported goods.

Customs is also used by the government to pound morality into the citizens with certain imported items like alcohol - wine in particular.  Appears the boys in green also have a hard on for cheese, and anything involving granola.  ?

It's been a while since we had a good "hub" story. The "hub" writer must have been on vacation.

I'm guessing that B.E. stands for brown envelopes.

Start by educating and putting honest customs police officials in Thai Airports and replace the actual  bunch of corrupt customs/immigration fellows,  just out there to harass farangs and tourists.

It's already the Regional distribution of drugs so no training necessary.when I think about customs it sends a shivver down my spine thinking of the pocket filling that goes on in that dept and not having to answer to anyone.you won't find a poor custom officer for sure.a very secretive dept with the brotherhood on a Masonic lodge.

Hub for whom ?  Given the ridiculous visa regulations and that it is a poor, floundering country, why would it be of interest ?    When Thailand behavior improves to the level of its neighbors, I might be interested.

Fiction is stranger than truth ?
