Featured Replies

I have a retirement extension which expires in february ,my flight home is non changeable 10 days later, can I get a 7 day extension to my visa extension or if I overstay that 10 days what are the charges I will have to pay when I leave Thailand,I am 88 years old and have been staying here for 6 months per year for the past 20 years,If I can extend for 7 days ,I will only have to pay a few days overstay charge I am too old for visa runs and would have to have 800000 baht in the bank for just 10 or 12 days extra .I dont plan on returning to Thailand

There is no 7 day extension.

You can apply for a 30 day extension that would be refused and given 7 days to leave the country.

Overstay fine is 500 Baht a day.

A 10 day overstay would cost you 5,000 baht (500 per day).

There is no extension of stay (other than 1 year) that you qualify to apply for; however, if you apply for an extension (any reason/length) it will be denied and they will give you 7 days to leave the country. It will cost you 1,900 baht.

I certainly wouldn't deliberately overstay, there are some seriously alarming reports on this and other forums of what happens to people who overstay. If I was in your position I'd have 10 days in Siem Reap and fly back into Bangkok just to catch my flight home.

Only if they get caught before going to the airport or have an overstay of more than 90 days. Both cases will result in a ban from entering the country.

Yes, the ban doesn't bother him as he's never returning. There's always that worrying risk of getting checked before going to the airport. You hear stories of people going to detention then, something I'm sure an 88 yo would not want.

In 40 years I've never overstayed 1 day and sure would never suggest to anyone that they deliberately use overstay as way to remain longer in the country.
