BANGKOK — A newscaster was suspended Thursday for calling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a dictator on live television.

Peerapol “Champ” Euariyakul was reporting about how Mesut Ozil – a German international footballer of Turkish descent – quit the team after being racially harassed by some fans for meeting Erdogan, when he made the comments about the president.

Can’t be going around insulting dictators in other countries. Might lead you to think you can do it at home too.

“The five things you will hear the most when talking about Recep Tayyip Ergodan are ‘dictator,’ ‘election fraud,’ ‘not listening to citizens,’ ‘getting rid of the opposition in any way possible,’ and ‘the leader that jails the most journalists,’” Peerapol said.”

You know, that all sounds familiar somehow...

Dictator is the only plus point of this vile sultan he makes the generals here look like choirboys.

“Luckily, us Thais can access Wikipedia,” Peerapol said.

Yeah, just don't mention what you read there on Facebook.

There's an irony that the journalist who wrote the article knows all about that first-hand:

But, I thought a punishment was supposed to be used for people that say something wrong.

If it's someone influential, then it's not so important if it's wrong or right, but that you upset them is what counts unfortunately.

They should have charged Peerapol with lese majeste. It's my understanding that the law does not only forbid criticism of Thailand''s monarchy but also of foreign heads of states.

I don't think it's ever been used this way but now's a good time to start
