Who's laughing now? Pranksters rounded up by the army after gun stunt at Bangkok bus stops

Six young Thai men are in custody after posting a series of pranks on Facebook in which the public were terrified.

They thought it was all great fun to see people running for their lives as they used a cap gun, silicone gun and back up loudspeaker with machine gun noise.

But neither the Thai public nor the army and police saw the funny side.

Within two days all the pranksters were in custody and being interrogated.

"Grean the Gang" had posted the footage on Friday evening.

People ran in terror as they believed there was a shootout going on.

But condemnation online was swift and the military in the Bang Jork area of the city got together with Lamphaksi police to make the arrests.

Taken into custody at the Wat Lampa-ong community were six men aged 16-27.

Ringleader Natthaphon Thongdee, 27, said: "We were just trying to be funny. We'd seen clips like this done abroad and wanted to make our own".

Thais on Facebook turned on the group immediately.

"Tosawas Sermsil" said: "When foreigners or Japanese do it they make it funny. Not here."

"Arter Kwanmonkol" said: "What if one of the victims had run into traffic and been killed trying to get away?"

"Suklawat" just called for them to be arrested.

Thai Rath said they were helping police with their inquiries though there was no word yet on the charges after they were taken in Sunday.

If the boys want to play with guns, let them join the army. There are probably places in Yala and Pattani, where they could serve few years with real guns.

"When foreigners or Japanese do it ...".

Are the Japanese not foreigners now but honorary Thais?

But I like the way in which one bloke just stands at the bus stop with his arms folded, looking completely unconcerned in the face of this 'machine gun attack'.

You tube is full of these prankster videos of scaring people. There has been lots of cases of bad outcomes in the states particularly with clown videos that portray homicidal maniacs dressed as clowns wielding axes etc. I haven't seen too many though that depict gun usage with so many people in the U.S. with carry and conceal licenses. When my wife and I were back in Canada I showed her some and asked how the pranks would fly in Thailand? She predicted that Thais wouldn't find humor in getting the sh** scared out of them and that bad things could happen. I think these kids were naive to try that prank here and expect no repercussions. The loss of face of running down the street with p*ss running down their legs would be tremendous. This could of went south very quickly.

Your right could have gone south very quickly if someone at bus stop or surrounding area started return fire with a real gun, thailand not then place to be doing these type of pranks

When the guy with the silicone gun gets out I have a little job in my bathroom for him?

Yet more 'Innovation' from the wonderfully bright and talented Thai Male population.   Will any of them ever actually grow a brain ?

Morons...make an example of them.

Treat them as terrorists and sentence them accordingly.

6 months in a southern army boot camp should sort them out..

I actually thought the video was quite funny....

At least they are not going round stabbing people. With real knives...

The Merry Pranksters - were you ever young?

Funny or not...not acceptable, as the average person of the public everywhere is pretty easy to panic these days. So, by your deduction, its fine to scare the crap out of the sheeple for fun. That doesn't fly, despite their fragility. However, you could be trolling here...maybe.

That's actually a great direct punishment for them sending them to Yala to practically get bombed away by real terrorists for real,.... so to say......

Your word not mine - sheeple.

And I aint ever been, nor looked like, nor thought like a "sheeple".

Carry on...…...

Whilst you might expect this from a 16 year old, I would have expected more sense from a 27 year old. Just goes to show the continuing emotional immaturity of the Thai male.

Strange that over 99% of the YouTube pranks just like this aren't in Thai...  But some folks seem to find a reason to bash our hosts in every thread on every topic.

Gets a little old and stale, though.

Yes, it's sooooo funny to threaten other people's lives and make them think they're going to die. Big barrel of laughs, that...

The whole thing appeared staged inc the alleged victims therefore this bus wont be needed just yet...

Age has nothing to do with it...
