Is E-visa to Cambodia accepted at Poipet ?

Recommended Posts

You hear some crazy stories about Poipet so just want to make sure.

I'm planning a holiday to Cambodia and we will cross by land this time.  An E-visa is $30 + $7 fee.   As long as they accept it I can avoid all the scams going on at the border?

Enjoy the holiday but in all honesty I would say return through a different border crossing.
Siem Reap is only a few hours away from the border so its actually a nice route, and I have never visited before. Looking forward to it , but as always will be prepared for scams at the border.

Siem Reap is an interesting trip for those of us living in Thailand - especially rural Thailand.

Obviously, it is worth going for Angkor Wat alone................. but beyond that, the culinary choices are enormous and draft Angkor/Anchor/Cambodia beers @ 50c a glass.... decent wine at sensible prices........

Enjoy!

This one....

https://evisa.gov.kh/

That is the one I used last month !  30 $ + 6 US.

I got the visa in less that 24 hours by email and printed my 2 copies.

No problems   at Immigration .

The officer keep one copy and you keep the other copy while in Cambodia..

If you haven't been through Poipet before then it works as follows.

When you get to the Thai Immigration side there will most likely be a very long queue for exit, it will be 99% Thai and Cambodians waiting to go through.

Don't join that queue. Ay the actual Imm' departure side they go through on the ground floor and you go to the stairs that lead to the upper floor, it's generally a much shorter queue.

Stamp out and go through the exit. Walk across the bridge and you will/might see people, expats, queuing outside a building on your right. They are getting their visas there, you don't need to, you have yours already ( e-visa ).

Keep walking and just ignore the we can help you with visa sir merchants.

After about about 300  metres you'll see the 'enter Cambo queue' right hand side of the road after the Casinos.

Make sure you have a pen to fill out the landing cards etc, not easy when all you have is your knee as a desk sometimes.

I always made two copies of the e visa, one to hand over and one for return to Thailand, I know it's not really required but when you return it helps the Cambo leaving side as they will spend ages flicking through your passport looking the big green visa sticker that you won't have.

Lots of things like booze, cigarettes etc on sale in no-mans land but only a 120% of it is fake.

Has anyone got a “here’s how it works for” Cham Yeam (Koh Kong) border?

Stamp out of Thailand on the right. Go about 200 metres forward. Nice beach on the right. Cambodian immigration is a small building on the left. Up two steps to the window. Look at the camera. Put fingers/thumbs on reader. Welcome to the KoW.

If entering Cambodia there, Cambodian immigration can be a bitch. An e-visa helps. Leaving Cambodia at that crossing is fine. Thai immigration is no problem.

We will do it by by land for a change. It's not too bad , 8 hours and comfortable seats where you can stretch out.

We choose the bus company with best reviews from Bangkok, Giant Ibis, directly to Siem Reap , they will take care of everything at the border.  1000 baht one way.

But if I did not get an E-visa , they would ask for $10-20 extra in fees.

Return flight with Air Asia is 6000 baht , so you'll only save 4000 baht , but still money saved that can be spent on food/ drinks.  We are not in a rush .

admittedly a few years ago, but have been to Cambodia / Siem Reap a few times

using the Aran/Poipet crossing

normally I arranged a paper visa in my passport through the embassy in BKK

then ordinary bus Ekkamai-Rongklua (the market next to the border crossing)

walk from bus through to Kamen,

use the free bus service from the border to the bus station

maybe take a taxi at the bus station for Siem Reap or stay over a night or 2 in Poipet

enjoy Siem Reap, ok place

As you have said you are not in a rush, the 1000 baht bus trip sounds excellent. For those that may not have as much time currently Bangkok Air has a Web Promotion return fare of 5,425 baht. I don't know how long the Promotion lasts.

If any site you apply on costs more than the 30 + 7 dollars it's scam.

Easy.

I know some who have paid 90 dollars.

???

There's about a dozen sites all charging fee's ,  but only one government site, it certainly is a challenge living in the fast lane.

No only for Cambodia e-visas. Try Vietnam or Myanmar. You have to look at the URL for the site to be sure it is a .gov. or .go.country abbreviation site.

The same really as getting a visa at the border. You can use the official counter for visa on arrival, but many are happy paying extra to have someone else get the sticker for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

I received my E-visa 36 hours after I applied. You have to upload a picture of yourself and also a picture of the photo page in the passport.

Fee $30 + $6
