Hi,

I am a 28 years old male, married  to a Thai woman and currently on a ED visa.

At the end of this year I will end my studies, cancel my ED visa, go abroad to apply for a non-O visa based on marriage, and come back to Thailand to look for work.

* I read that it is possible to get ME at Savannakhet without much financial hassle, which is an issue to me. *

I am looking to get things clear regarding the following:

If I would be fortunate enough to find work quickly, would it make sense to have ME rather than Single non-O apart from the financials?

- Once i get an employer and also a work permit, should I extend my visa within Thailand or should I go abroad and make a new visa every time?

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet with no financial proof needed.

You can get a single entry non-o without financial proof at a embassy or consulate.Or are you confusing it with getting a one year extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration.

You can get a work permit and work with a non-o visa or extension of stay based upon marriage. It can be done with a multiple entry non-o visa.

If you find work you can use your income to apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage to if your salary is at least 40k baht.

You could apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries form your multiple entry visa.

So, my plan would be like this:

- get a multiple entry non-o at Savannakhet

- if I find work quickly, I would still sit out my multiple entry visa (including the border runs every 90days) until one year has passed rather than applying for an extension of stay immediately.

Does this make sense or is it better to apply for extension of stay once i find work and have my work permit?

You don't have to wait until your visa expires to apply for the extension. You can do it during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries.

It is your choice when to get the extension. You might get tired of leaving the country every 90 days.

It is clear for me now, thank you.

Just one more thing: is it possible to apply for extension of stay in Chiang Mai without going to Bangkok every time?

If you live in Chiang Mai that is where you will have to apply for every extension of stay.

You cannot do it in Bangkok if you live in Chiang Mai.
