BANGKOK, 3rd August 2018 (NNT)-Oil refiner Bangchak Petroleum Plc is cooperating with the Ministry of Energy to encourage the use of B20 biodiesel amid an oversupply of palm oil.

Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan, today presided over the opening ceremony of a campaign aimed at increasing B20 biodiesel consumption. The President and Chief Executive Officer of Bangchak Petroleum Plc , Chaiwat Kovavisarach, said his company is supporting the Ministry of Energy’s campaign to help palm oil farmers deal with the present over supply of palm oil.

He claimed the use of B20 biodiesel, which contains 20% palm oil, will help protect the environment and shoulder the cost of living for Thais since it is 3 baht cheaper per liter than regular diesel. Chaiwait added, in addition to Bangchak, other companies like TPI Polene Plc and TPI Concrete Plc are supporting the initiative, and are now using palm oil in some of their products.

They have so far used 2.5 million liters of palm oil and are expected to help raise the consumption of palm oil to 3,500 tons by the end of this year. The President and Chief Executive Officer of Bangchak Petroleum Plc is also urging other manufacturers to use B20 biodiesel to help farmers.

Utter madness to suggest growing palm oil trees, usually using petroleum based fertilizer, to make 'bio diesel' will 'help protect the environment' is ingenuous at best and barking mad at worst.

The only thing being protected here are the palm oil producers and distributors.

Perhaps a better word to describe this idea would be ingenuous, as it's hardly ingenious.

palm oil production promotes the destruction of natural forests, the bubble has burst and western countries are promoting not using palm oil products.

Even more palm oil in diesel is bad for older engines.

It used to be 2 % with biodiesel around 5 % and cheaper.

Then then changed all the diesel to 7-9%. Now they want 20 % ?

Terrible !!

I wish we could gas up over the border ... if they had better diesel there.

in a new diesel ,in my vehicle the manufacturer told me that any more than 5 percent biodiesel would void my warranty
