Pattaya baht bus driver returns bag with 50k THB cash to Indian tourist

An Indian tourist in Pattaya has thanked a baht bus driver for returning his bag which contained 50,000 baht in cash.

 

Sachin Yadav, 22, had been travelling from his hotel to Walking Street when he left his bag in the back of the baht bus on Friday.

 

Bus driver Sayan Lakthong, 39, took the bag to the baht bus office in Pattaya and staff were able to track down Mr Yadav and arrange for him to pick up his bag.

 

When collecting his bag, Mr Yadav praised the honesty of driver  and gave him a cash reward for his good deed.

There's a competition started, baht bus drivers against taxi drivers. Seems strange that the bag wasn't taken by some other passenger on the bus, perhaps he was alone?

Have I missed something ? or has there been a huge mix up and the returning money story has actually preceded the bad story ?

These stories have got to be a set up surely.

Let me share a story of a friend of my wife who has had a similar situation, and this story probably shows how these things really go.

 

This guy was carrying around a bag of cash back to his parents house but forgot to take it from the bus he took there from Bangkok.

 

Once he noticed he had forgotten his bag he quickly called lost&found of the bus station and luckily they had his bag. He rushed over to get his bag back.

 

Once there it appeared they had taken a look in the bag and they refused to return it until an agreement was made about the reward. 

 

A good hour later they came to an agreement, the reward was paid out, and the story appeared in the news as if the bus driver had tracked the owner down and of course without mentioning the negotiations.

What's with all these people carelessly carrying bags of cash? I know we all have to travel with large sums on occasion but when I do, there would have to be something catastrophic to separate it from me.

At least until I get alzhiemers.

I wondered the same.

Once i was in the bank to make a transfer and next to me a person was loading pack of bills into a laptop bag. Once done he drove away on his scooter.

 

Wouldnt it be easier to just transfer the money or is it all for bribes?

Hurray! What a good news story!

Made me completely forget about the PM threatening to punch people in the face, and the photographers who need to wai him.

Plus any other bad news stories about to break in the next day.

 

I assume the taxi/baht bus 'find' will be if the Thai media actually get to quiz the PM on why he was too scared too talk to the  media after the Indonesian press gave him a hard time about Asean.

If you have spent some time in India you will know that cash is king there.
It's not easy for any Indians to get credit cards so they just bring cash. The 50k is probably meant for the whole family on vacation.

More like 500 rupees 

Not only are people abnormally careless with their cash and jewelry in taxis and buses. The drivers are also extremely honest and always return what they find. And, the people involved always agree to contact the media. Amazing!

i find only one wrong thing which is "a poor boy envying an Indian" who carries a rather modest amount of cash to last for two tourist weeks.

Thailand now number one at bag returns keep up the unbelievable good fortune tourist can now enjoy on public transport ?
