Bangkokians and visitors can now commute conveniently from the Bang Wa skytrain station to the Khlong Bang Luang Market free-of-charge during weekends and public holidays from 8am to 6pm, thanks to a new trial boat service.

The boat is being run by Krungthep Thanakom, a company established by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), said deputy Bangkok governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul.

It goes every 30 minutes and takes passengers from the pier at Bang Wa skytrain station, cruising along the Khlong Phasi Charoen and Khlong Bang Luang canals.

The trip ends at Khlong Bang Luang Market, which boasts Baan Silapin (Artist's House) and is also famous for Thai traditional puppet shows and the many sculptures it has on display.

The boat service links the canals to other modes of transport as per the BMA's “Lor, Rang, Rua” (wheels, rails and boats) logistics infrastructure-connecting policy, said Sakoltee.

The trial period is part of a feasibility study to determine how popular the service is and what the appropriate fare should be.

It will be very popular until they start charging for the service

The Khlong boats in Bangkok are enormously convenient and a vital mode of transportation.   If the fares are similar and the route proves useful, it could be a plus.
