Bangkok or regional airport?

Recommended Posts

All being equal, is it easier to enter the country in the regional airports --  Pattay, Phuket, Surathani, Chiang Mai and so on -- rather than in DMK/BKK? Meaning - less questions, less scrutiny "why have you stayed for so long in Thailand?"

I always use Bangkok, not for "will I get in reasons" but because its bigger and so seems like it should be better equipped for processing.  I know that's not necessarily the case (usually is for me) but my previous experiences with Chiang Mai for instance and this could have just been a "2 off occasion" I was just smothered in a mob of people with seemingly no lines or barriers for 2 hours.  It could have sorted itself out now but I don't want to go through that again.

Why do you feel the need for 'less scrutiny'? So long as your paperwork is in order and there's nothing dodgy going on what's the issue?

People have been denied-entry after being told non-existent rules "were the law" at both Bangkok airports.  The "dodgy" to worry about is on the other side of the desk, in many instances.

There have been no reports of denials at Chang Mai airport with a Tourist Visa, that I recall.  This could be due to fewer overall reports, given the lower traffic there.  If I were forced to enter the country via an airport, that is the one I would try.

If you come frequently or stay here for considerable time, it is best to always enter using a Visa.  The only exception would be 2 visa-exempts by land per calendar-year at a land-border other than Poipet/Aranya.

that's what I think too.

in Bangkok they have more stuff members, more space and so on. In other airports -- where will they hold you if they decide to do so?

Who cares?

Do you have something to hide?

Good luck to you.

After you have a conversation with an officer because it's your 2nd stamp this year -- "what are you doing in Thailand? Why for so long? Hmmmm", both being by air, with a delay of several weeks or months in between, I'll laugh at you.

I always wonder: where do you guys get those numbers? 2 by land, 3 by air and so on? The numbers always differ, from topic to topic.

Is 2 by land absolutely and always true on practice?

Since January of 2017, two visa exempt entries at land crossings per calendar year is a hard limit. The only exception I have so far ever heard being made is for someone living in Myanmar who crosses for one or two days every now and again. I would be very surprised if someone could get away with a third visa exempt entry by land when spending the bulk of their time in Thailand.

you might consider using the VIP arrival service at BKK.  the cost is 1,200thb and you are escorted through the premium/priority immigration lane.  they do have a dress code for service so pay attention to that (no tank tops, flip flops, etc...).  i think using the premium lane reduces your chances of an interview prior to entry.
