what do you mean EU? what is EU?

why should anyone have any formal concern with where Paddy wants to land his wares?

France, ZeeBrugge, Rotterdam or Copenhagen/Venezia for that matter?

He doesn't have a long family tree of been Irish, but does it matter if he's a gay or a 'new Irish' he is an idiot and there are plans to close his route through England for his trucks if the EU get awkward as he's done more to ruin Irish UK relations than any previous Tiosch (Prime minister). We bailed them out in the financial crisis when no one else would lend them money now they kick us in the €€locks.

The Irish use mainly 3 ports to enter the U.K. To drive to Dover, it doesn't take a lot of legally slow moving traffic to cut off their route does it? They are only allowed in the first two lanes of the motorway. He will regret his play hard get hard, he will soon be finding out how produce rots in his vehicles after Brexit.

https://www.independent.ie/business/irish/exporters-to-keep-uk-land-bridge-after-brexit-36385212.html

They want to frustrate Brexit do they not realize our peaceful ways of cutting off their only viable route for all their produce and it would take them years to find another cost effective nautical route.

Ha ha ha, love the brexiteers claiming the result of a democratic vote, means you can never have another vote on the issue.    Why would you deny the people a vote on what brexit ultimately

  • the people didn't vote for a deal they voted to leave and that is what should have happened, all this deal stuff is outside the scope of leaving - it confused the issue.   Talks on a trade d

So it seems that Britain is going to stay at EU's customs union. Well that's fine.

In that way UK will not lose many of it's businesses and outside of EU, UK is not able to hinder further integration development of the EU which are urgently required to solve various issues inside EU.

That's almost like eating the cake and keeping it.

Like Turkey, Andorra and The Isle of Man? ????

Do we need another referendum - apparently yes - I have never supported the general idea of referendums in a democracy - thy need to be well considered etc before being put forward and their legal status needs to be clear and any changes in constitution need to be a super-majority - however.......the lumpen masses who have no idea what democracy is, think referendums are "democratic", so we have to play that game - highly dubious though it is.

it is my firm belief that the only democratic way out of this mess is a general election - rid parliament of all MPs who keep changing their mind to suit which way the wind blows, get rid of May and Johnson and co., and put them on trial for treason.

Yes as they will be starting to run out of cheap labor. So will have to pay living wages at last. I note former boss of BT and Sainsbury in the article so he's not a business person he's retired!

Any move ( or none) is political suicide at the moment !

Your right they will be mostly pondering how to get out of what they created, but what if there was a vote would the options be?

Not according to the Irish Govt Hence this new ship

t is hoped its size will allow hundreds of thousands of additional tonnes of freight go to and from the Continent each year, bypassing Britain and the border controls and paperwork that may be inevitable if a hard Brexit becomes a reality.

Ireland in the EU France is in the EU the UK soon will be out of the EU  Irish trucks travelling from Dublin to France via the UK will be subject to checks and extra processing as we have been told many times you can't have you cake and eat it

The MSM only cover when the lefts bully boys and violent childlike ANTIFA turn up and get a kicking. Then they blame the far right (anyone aposed to immigration) for defending ourselves.

Not too long really. Not sure why this is not done more anyway.

They don't need the UK road trip if they have quite a few more ships like this.

So much of this thread focuses on the UK, naturally, but it's worth looking occsaionally at the EU and its issues. The Observer today splashes with "EU mired in [non-Brexit] crises".

How about this from George Soros from Business Insider earlier ths year:

“The European Union is in the midst of an "existential crisis" and may cease to exist”

"There is no longer any point in ignoring the reality that a number of European Union member countries have explicitly rejected the EU’s goal of "ever closer union,'" Soros said.

"Since the financial crisis of 2008, the EU seems to have lost its way. It adopted a program of fiscal retrenchment, which led to the euro crisis and transformed the eurozone into a relationship between creditors and debtors. The creditors set the conditions that the debtors had to meet, yet could not meet. This created a relationship that was neither voluntary nor equal – the very opposite of the credo on which the EU was based.""

EU should quickly accept Turkey's EU membership so that Turkey would be able to give orders to UK as a real EU member ????

Just kidding, it's never going to happen.

So Brexit is not going to be Brexit - at least not if the UK remains in the Customs Union?

Guys help me out, I have some difficulties understanding what a vote/ref on a deal actually means, how can this be accomplished in a meaningful manner?

what would the ballot paper look like?

deal = text published by gov as xxxxxxx

are you happy with this?    tick here

are you unhappy with this?   tick here

Majority concludes happy, fine - government speeds ahead and try cast the deal into treaty text with  EU

Majority concludes unhappy, ??? what then? what does the government do? crash out with no deal? Try to prolong the a50 period for further negos? Or what?

Yes I saw that. And indeed look what's happening around the world, eg, Brazil.

Businessman Arron Banks has been challenged to explain where the money for his Brexit campaign came from.

Mr Banks is the subject of a police probe into claims he was not the "true source" of £8m loaned to his Leave.EU campaign at the 2016 EU referendum.

The Electoral Commission referred the case to the National Crime Agency, which said potential criminal offences may have been committed.

A short quote from the Guardian post.

"Last month the European commission took the unprecedented and high-risk step of rejecting the draft budget of the third-biggest economy in the eurozone, in a move designed to force the country’s democratically elected government to rein in its spending.

With borrowing at 130% of gross domestic product, second only to Greece in the EU, Italy is said to be a danger to financial stability across Europe. Its government has been told to come up with a revised financial plan by 13 November, or face huge fines."

That seems a brilliant EU plan to me.

Italy is deep in debt and the EU says if you don't trim your budget we will fine you even more money. And if they refuse and the EU fines Italy and they don't pay, what next?

Bigger and heavier fines perhaps?

Suspension or expulsion from the EU.

The EU is like a house of cards and one or two cards are being taken away IMHO.
