Police pose with a sign for the Chinese tourists fast-track lane on Aug. 3 at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

BANGKOK — Those who want independence for Hong Kong and Taiwan won recognition from an unlikely source this week: Thai immigration police.

The force said Friday they are looking into media reports that citizens from the two regions were denied access to newly opened “premium lanes” for Chinese visitors. One immigration official blamed a “misunderstanding” by the officers manning the stations.

  • They should scrap immigration for Chinese altogether. Give them citizenship on arrival: the future colonial masters should be treated with a modicum of respect....

They could funnel the Chinese straight to the boats if they don't want to queue on exit.    BJ's bouncers look better in black don't you think?

For Hong Kong and Taiwan passport holders different visa rules apply.

Why should they be treated like PRC Chinese?

"Chinese Passports" is ambiguous.

This is a win win win.

We win.

The Chinese win.

Immigration look efficient and also win.

Someone is thinking,  that's Dangerous!  Time they were 'inactivated' to a post in east bum <deleted> somewhere.

Ask the Chinese Government, they will let them know.

I am in Taiwan now and have lived between Taiwan-Thailand for years and about 16 of the last 19 years here in Taipei, Taiwan.....I know of "0" friends here who would want to use that lane!!  They deplore the mainland and always say "I am Taiwanese, not Chinese!"  I don't think you would see many people from here wanting to use that fast-track lane for sure!!  After all, these people are used to standing in long lines anyways aren't they?

Hong Kong ok, but Taiwan is Taiwan.
They honestly should be happy to not be allowed in the Chinese line. How can you tell a Chinese person from a Taiwanese at the immigration line? The Chinese person or group is cutting que and very boisterous.

Don't forget the Chinese from Thailand.?????

Surely it’s all about passports not looks. The signage states very clearly Chine passport holders. Taiwanese and Hong Kongers do not hold PRC passports and therefore are not eligible for the privilege

So stupid these officials. Treat everyone the same. the Chinese are dirty, disrespectful, with NO manners. I have dealt with them in business  For 30 years. I know them. The Thai government are kissing their bums.

The Europens are or were the top tourist people but they were treated like shit. The fever meant are losing them now. That is why the tourist numbers are falling but the top officials cannot see this or do not wat to see it.

I think you will find that many Hong Kongers hold PRC passports, particularly those that had the BNO passport  which turned out to be somewhat useless.

I reckon they would try to quarantine him as soon as an English speaker read his name.

Why would they be cutting 'what'? That means they're Spanish, not Chinese.

Just regarding the photo, it reminds me that it was the Chinese who invented ice cream.

I'm sure most of us have heard about the Great Walls Of China.

Not strictly true, Hong Kong nationals with chinese lineage are entitled to hold a BNO passport as well as a HKSAR passport, neither are PRC passports.

a PRC passport requires visas etc to most destinations, a HKSAR Passport is much more flexible

I stand corrected.

Completey off topic.

Dongguan - Been there a couple of times, her indoors has a multitude of relatives there. Her mother was the matriarch  of the "tribe". First time there we were were treated like royalty and over 100 turned up for dinner on one evening

Forgive Manuel... He's from Barcelona.

I ate Chinese food does that count....

Easy to fix.

Have a wee machine with a stick that goes left and right

non-stop with a flag showing a plate of shrimps on it just before the lane.

Figures Taiwanese and HONG Kongers want nothing to do with mainland well unless it’s to their benefit.....
