PM dodges Prawit birthday

Despite his poor health, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan welcomed early birthday wishes on Friday, the day before he turns 73.

 

The eldest and considered one of the most senior figures in the ruling junta, Prawit greeted well wishers from over 40 military personnel and police officers at his Five Provinces Bordering Forest Preservation Foundation.

 

Despite the annual routine, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was not at Friday’s celebration.

 

“Thank you for all the wishes. I hope you won’t mind some words I have said. I didn’t mean that but sometimes my words are interpreted,” said Prawit, who is well known for his “uncaring words” when interacting with reporters.

 

“But sometimes I get tired with social media, where my words are distorted,” he said.

 

“I never want to damage the country and wish the country would move forward fast,” he added. “Everything is in order as the National Council for Peace and Order is entering its fifth year. Police, military and administrative officers have helped each other.”

 

While the two-time minister is known to have broad connections with top political figures and has greatly helped sustain the NCPO in the political arena, he is also one of the junta’s most controversial figures for not only his rough words with the press but also allegations of corruption. 

 

The investigations into Prawit’s pricey three-day official trip to Hawaii that cost Bt20.9 million in 2016 and his luxury watches, estimated to be worth over Bt30 million, have gone nowhere.

 

Last month, Chinese social media users also raged as Prawit said during his interview that the tragic boat sinking in Phuket, taking away lives of over 40 Chinese tourists, was a result of an illegal Chinese tour operator and that “the Chinese just harmed themselves”.

 

Prawit later apologised for his remarks.

 

Due to his age, Prawit receives regular medical treatment. Last year, he went absent from work for a whole week before reappearing having lost weight. He allegedly had heart surgery during the period.

 

He was also brought back to Bangkok during the mobile Cabinet meeting in Ubon Ratchathani due to diarrhoea, according to a government spokesperson.

Somewhat disappointing that his old mate the PM dodges the old fart's birthday celebrations. He's not likely to have many more of them so he could have at least turned up. 

I read somewhere else where Prawit had serious diarrhea and had to be pumped full of antibiotics.

I hope a good supply of adult nappies was on hand.

I didn't realise there were no public toilets in Ubon?

I'm pretty sure there was some distorting going on that day.

Prawit asked well wisher's not to give give him any expensive watches... 

This "entity" needs to disappear from this sham of a show...and has nothing to add to anything other than a gaff there and there, and is just being supported by the "boys' network" to the detriment of Thailand.

The fact that Ole Fatty is such an embarrassment even little p avoided being seen with him.

Does Prayuth do his shows on Fridays ?   Perhaps Fridays are harmonica lessons.   Prawit is a  waste of skin and birthday parties are for children that run the country.

I'm no woman or heart surgeon, but this surely was a bad time of the month to go under the knife.

Prayut probably just was embarrassed that he was unable to find an appropriate birthday gift for his junta compadre in time, an expensive wristwatch, for example.

Yes he is getting regular medical treatment, because he is delusional keeps seeing expensive watches, and thinks his dead friends gave them to him.

Drug delivery is also very important. I would say he would still be able to swallow being in the job he is in. But his age he may be getting close to rectum delivery. Could be hard to reach around, so may be administered by a nurse or a good friend. Poor old Benny.

 

I Thai woman asked me the other day why I call him Benny. I told her about the cartoon Top Cat. Benny was Top Cats side kick.
