Casual Wear Banned For Government House Reporters

BANGKOK — Jeans and T-shirts are out of fashion – at least for reporters covering junta leader Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha.

The Government House has imposed an old regulation banning journalists at the office of the prime minister, whose job Prayuth has also claimed since the 2014 coup, from wearing such casual-wear clothing.

From the article.

Reporters at the Government House wearing jeans and round-neck T-shirts will no longer be allowed inside.... Additionally, reporters were also requested not to sit and occupy the steps in front of the Banchakarn One Building, where cabinet meetings are held on Tuesdays...photographers were ordered to bow before and after snapping photos of the retired general, while keeping a distance of at least five meters from him....

It has to be tough being a Thai reporter under the current regime. These people keep getting squeezed and pushed into a corner...

Some very fragile egos on display here.

It would be nice to see the reporters dress in a professional manner, it is not like they have to do physical work apart from developing sharp elbows in the press scrum (Hint: they are better disguised by long sleeve shirts).

And so it continues,  inordinately glorify the past, dust off old rules,  and usher in even more forelock tugging to set the tone for the next 20 years.

I'm genuinely surprised TV have not already started locking down news threads about the NCPO,  it can't be far off now...

Just stop reporting the 'news'.

When the little boys no longer see their name in the papers, the rules will change again.

Yeah...no many more urgent problems to think about!

If I were "the reporters", I would now go and buy some of these soap- opera -"historic"- costumes and mock the hell out of the next press- conference!

...but that might give the psychos in charge some stupid (even MORE stupid) ideas!

:coffee1:

Nothing wrong to be well dressed. :cheesy::wink:

Go on Thais - lap it all up - bow and scrape, follow every bit of micro-management, and show not the slightest sign of resistance or defiance.

Journalists with any backbone and journalistic integrity would have refused to cover the shenanigans of this mob long ago ...

Absolutely right, don’t these people know their place?

Not even   "We love Prayuth " t shirts.

Good to see he is taking care of all the serious issues.

I know, Bluespunk: people really should understand that the ruling elite are more holy, untouchable and exalted than Buddha, Christ, Mohammed, Krishna and God the Father combined. They are supreme - and must be given that supreme, well-deserved respect and veneration which is their due!

Yeah, they all should dress up as fops and tarts.  Or rent tux's and wedding gowns.  Making themselves loved by the press before the election.

Approved dress and code of conduct

If I hate anything its dressing up, I used to have to dress up (go in a suit) when I worked at a stock trading company. Whenever important clients came with money I had to come in in a suit. They would have preferred it if I turned up in a suit every day. Thank god I never had to bow for clients.  That is just crazy seems it went to the head of the generals. I wonder if these stupid rules will be relaxed by a new government (if non junta) or if they keep it because everyone in power is always elite.

Perhaps the PM may be more receptive to those reporters who wear Louis Vuitton scarves which are more in keeping with his fashionista standard of dress..

Quite right too,  they should show respect for the establishment and wear fancy dress costumes as already been suggested  by the PM earlier this year.  Oh yes just to complete the real picture, as well as the fancy dress costumes, perhaps ,  as per the television program the PM copied from,  the men should also get stupid haircuts and lady reporters should wear the ridiculous earrings as worn on set.  All in keeping with the pantomime performances often seen at Government House.

I'm sure replacing "photos" with "the neck" would be popular too. Need someone with long arms though.

Has he been talking to the orange man in USA? This pipsqueak upstart often talks about inciting divisions and instability within the country, but here he goes again tampering with freedom of the press!

Select members of the media arrive at Government House for a press conference with a lecture from the Junta Grand Wizard.

They won't last

Maybe everyone can start wearing Mao suits.

Prayuth is just a typical  corrupt 3rd world army quack.

He'll have to buy the election next year if he wants to win.

Take it from North Korean press corps, a well dressed reporter is a good reporter.

What then is the proper attire to be executed as Prayut so frequently muses about doing to reporters?

For the record proper attire for reporters didn't protect them from Prayut's directed gunfire in 2010 to suppress an anti-government protest.

Oh yea, that’s a highly respected place ?

And let's all hope that in his case and his supporters that what comes round goes round.

If all of the reporters went dressed, as say, Ronald MacDonald, and were then refused entry, there would be absolutely no reporting or photos of the words of he who must be obeyed.

Could be interesting.

We would then probably have more of those (in)human interest stories in the newspapers - Man marries his dog, woman eats her own foot, body found in cemetery, etc,.

Not sure which is worse.
