George Bowman Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 The lady was certainly lucky. I must admit that I don't know which part of the track is which. Well, other than the rails. Anyone care to explain?

oldrunner Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 It is safe to help a person stranded on the track. In the USA there is a 3rd rail that provides the train with power. This must be disabled before you can assist a person who has fallen on the tracks. If, as in most cases, again in the USA, the person falls off from the edge of the platform, you can safely enter that space and help that person up (provided no train is headed your way). At my age, I cheer on the rescuers.

The rail with the yellow covering and danger stickers is the 3rd rail, which feeds power into the rolling stock through a pick up shoe which glides underneath. That's the one you don't want to be near. 2
