The BTS skytrain service on the Sukhumvit route was briefly halted during rush hours this morning after a woman fainted and fell onto a rail track from the platform at the Ratchathewi station.

BTS posted a message on its Twitter page at 8.17am, saying that the incident, which occurred at 8.15 am, prompted the trains approaching Ratchathewi on both sides of the station to make emergency stop.

The incident took place on the track which leads from Ratchathewi to Samrong station.

The woman was safely brought up from the track and the BTS.  The incident briefly delayed train arrivals at stations along the route.

The lady was certainly lucky.

I must admit that I don't know which part of the track is which. Well, other than the rails. Anyone care to explain?

The track on a railway or railroad, also known as the permanent way, is the structure consisting of the rails, fasteners, railroad ties and ballast, plus the underlying subgrade. Wikipedia

The two grey coloured tracks are Rail tracks.

The 4 box like structures in centre are power & comms.

It is safe to help a person stranded on the track. In the USA there is a 3rd rail that provides the train with power. This must be disabled before you can assist a person who has fallen on the tracks. If, as in most cases, again in the USA, the person falls off from the edge of the platform, you can safely enter that space and help that person up (provided no train is headed your way). At my age, I cheer on the rescuers.

The rail with the yellow covering and danger stickers is the 3rd rail, which feeds power into the rolling stock through a pick up shoe which glides underneath.

That's the one you don't want to be near.
