I have been asked to looksee eight days of security camera files from the corridor outside stepdaughters room.

Am using VLC Player but MP4 files stop if speed is increased more than 8.1 times.

The corridor is very quite.

Can anyone suggest a faster way to view the files.

She says she lost some money from her room  over that 8-Day period ....thanks

So most of the videos is "still", not much happening?

By theory (I have no experience) some CCTVs cam have SW that allows "motion"/"event" detection.

How big in file size and how long in duration are the videos (I guess/hope it's not a single 8 day file)?

I frequently use a converter SW which among the many features allows to jump through a video from "I-frame" to I-frame. Typically the distance from one such frame to the next is about 2 to 4 seconds.

Should be short enough to not miss a person walking in/out of the room?

If you now hold down the key for jumping to next I-frame you get a pretty quick "flip book".

The SW that I use is called "Avidemux".

Downloads for misc. OS are here:

http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html

After installing just open the video file and press (and hold) the cursor down/up keys to move quickly through the video (forward/backward).

Of course you can also use the slider (as in VLC) but quite a chance to miss an important timeframe.

"Flipbook" through a 2 hour video on my PC took me about 2 minutes.

That's 60x speed. Straining to watch and not be distracted.

Might be possible to even speed up with increasing key repetition rate.

Still a tedious task for 8 days of video
