A suicidal man was severely injured when he jumped off a flyover at an intersection in Bangkok's Jomthong district in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Bang Mod police station was alerted at 1am that a man was walking on the ledge of the flyover at the Bang Pakaew intersection in Bang Mod sub-district and dispatched officers to the scene along with officials from the city administration and the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

The man, who appeared drunk, was later identified as Weerawat Noree, 24. He walked back and forth on the ledge and made no demands, other than telling no one to come close.

Police stopped traffic from using the bridge and partially blocked the road below while an air cushion was set up.

After two hours of talking, the man continued to refuse anyone to get close and jumped before the air cushion fully inflated. He landed on the road and was rushed to the nearby Navy Hospital.

He later said he was depressed after arguing with his wife.
